The ubox is the bottleneck here, if you wanna run more amps get a dv6 pro from makerx.
If I can run 100-110 I’ll be happy. Think that’s feasible?
It’s a coinflip, ive seen them blow up from less, but they seem to blow up for no reason
Been solid so far running 90amps through my 6384s… guess I’ll cross my fingers
I keep drooling over the SKP 6485’s. I think at some point next year I will upgrade to them but I’ll need to swap out my 60D also to let them reach their potential. I am tempted to grab one of those heatsinks just to have it lol
Yeah, I’ve been fighting a losing battle trying not to buy these motors over the last few weeks… finally gave in last night after a couple beers
Same regarding the heatsink, just such a useful universal product to have on hand…
fwiw the reacher motors get hot, but they’re made to tolerate heat too. I’ve gotten mine to 66C on days around 5C, which is about 60C over ambient. Maybe I can hit 100C in the summer
Good to know. The amount of times I’ve already run into temp issues is too damn high, and it isn’t even Spring yet. Thermal throttling when it’s freezing outside just feels wrong…
Really hoping these 2 upgrades help eliminate the temp scares.
I would think the heatsink alone will help quite a bit.
i beansed mine at 135a each side. it would hit 80C. when it was -3c it would only hit 50C
Are you regularly using the full 90a per side on rides? If you are, yeah more amps makes sense. If not, you might find a throttle curve adjustment gets you the additional torque you are looking for. (more oomph with less throttle movement, although the absolute max oomph will not change).
Another way to ask - do you regularly hit full throttle on your remote?
Yeah, I’m full throttling pretty often. That’s part of why I want to increase my top end.
Throttle adjustment is a possibility but I like how linear everything feels currently…
Yeah, if you’re full throttling and hitting top speed frequently, it’s time to think about moving to high voltage and increase that gear ratio / increase the amps.
You may get the torque and top speed you want by pushing the amps higher on the higher kv motors. Play with the esk8 calculator and see what you come up with for force.
I would not run a ubox higher than spec’d amps. Hear about them popping for no good reason way too often.
Some quick calcs on your board
170 Kv (105a) = 466 Newtons
205 Kv (105a) = 386 Newtons
205 Kv (130a) = 478 Newtons
So, switching to 205kv gets you more top speed, but you need to run ~130a just to match your current force/acceleration.
I run 205s on my 60d, no problems so far.
How many amps are you pushing? I’m running 95A on my 6380’s right now
Id be careful, i think i just blew my spintend up with a 13S, 7490 179kv at just 90 amps
Ooh you like it spicy . I’m running 90A.
Hopefully the lower pole count will save me?
Either way, with all the Spintend horror stories I’ve seen lately, I’m thinking it’s time to switch controllers.
But I’ll save that for the next time I decide to buy some parts after a few beers…
When you factor in my running lower amps for the BN motors, then it looks like if I can safely run 105amps thru my ubox I’ll be able to match the torque of my previous setup and get a top speed boost.
Existing setup: 90 motor amps, 170kv
Upgraded setup: 105 motor amps, 205kv
Now to do some looking and see if anyone has run 105amps per side without blowing up their ubox…
I would sell the ubox, buy a dv6 pro, and run 120a all day without any worries.
