For sure, but i was answering to someone saying that 30usd are cheap for a pair of aluminiums’, those are ten times cheaper.
And the trampa steel ones seems like good quality to me for the bucks

Those are aluminum.

On my vehicles, aluminum motor pulleys last a tiny bit longer than a stinky fart.

I’m pretty sure I got black powder coated steel motor pulleys from dickyho for like $5 a pop, like yeah it’s a while to wait but there’s no way that’s not good enough

with a round endmill you could make one on a manual mill with a rotary I thought.

fillets will be bigger on the edges if you do that i think, calling the mister @surfnacho

I loathe that sound. A liberal application of JB weld silences it, but that definitely leaves something to be desired aesthetically.

Agreed, for those radii, it’d have to be a tool change and a tiny diameter mill. Either way, super inefficient.

No idea how these are done, but the most efficient way I can come up with is using EDM. Even then you’d need a 5 axis to reorient the piece/tool several times to avoid the lock condition.

Surface finish on these tells me I’m probably a ways off the mark though…

My guess is some sort of special cutter used on a rotary tool, something like this but very small. I can’t see the toolmarks enough to tell for sure. It is this or a ballnose endmill. Maybe a bigger radius cutter does most of the teeth then a fine one cleans up where the flanges begin.

A large portion of the features are made on a lathe as you would expect.
This type of endmill is how my adjustable baseplates are made. Bits like this can cut overhangs.

Don’t quote me on this but hardened alloy steel should have more abrasion resistance than 6Al-4V

I can see how that bit works for an undercut, but with the flange length being greater than the tooth profile radii, it wouldn’t be able to get in to do the cut without a negative thickness shank?

(I don’t have much experience with mills that aren’t ball or end (unless you count wood routers…), so I’m likely missing something obvious)
