k00k rambles about Raceboard Design

I mean my wheels would go amazingly with that deck though :smirk:

My 2¢:

  • That tail is begging to have a LED strip installed there
  • Fiberglass the whole thing; keep it thin, add integrated enclosure for 21700 cells
  • More sharp edges and flair
  • Extend wheelbase to prevent wheelbite

hi thanks…

kook make race esk8 deck

this board will NEVER have any LEDs, EVER (raceboard)

I’ve discussed my reasoning and thoughts above…

have you read enough to even know what the design wheelbase is? wheelbase length doesn’t prevent wheel bite…

that will be covered in the truck articulation and ride height setting section… much is going on behind the scenes this thread is here to air out my design during this thought puzzle…

but thanks for playing along

I thought I’d retouch again on the “thinness” and “sharpness” aspects on this board design…

these two thoughts are of vital design elements and must be carried forward into this design…
maybe this will give you a better perspective…

this will be the thinnest sections of the deck, the hardwood core… trust me it’s thin, and wrapped in fiberglass…

Al, @glyphiks has noted that he’s heard one doesn’t glass the rails…

that’s true, because glass edges are susceptible to impacts… those who surfed have experienced dings and where they most commonly occur… and yes… this board will be at risk for edge dings and shit, that’s why I’ve opted for a thin hardwood core…

if the edges were all “thin” and “sharp” and built of unsupported glass fibre/carbon fibre it would be more at jeopardy of a catastrophic failure…

being that as it may be this board isn’t designed as an everyday fukkit and sk8-it deck, it’s aim is a light-weignt rigid/stiff raceboard deck… some allowances and compromised are noted and accepted…

this view may give you an idea of the thinness aspect of the top deck, and the obvious thickness needed to support the truck, and stiffen the deck…

as stated above the thickest section of the board will be 20mm~ish, at the truck mounting area and gooseneck of the drops… the actual board, core, glass, etc. will be a few millimeters thinner… how thin?

only science will tell…
