Is this reacher smoked?

Im pretty certain it gave up the ghost but looking for insight into what caused this.

Riding on flat and board lightly jerked a few times, looked down and a tiny puff of black emanated from the ventilation. This is what i found inside. One broken wire, a couple discolored ones and a small black spot. What could have cause this?

Probably a loose wire vibrating till it broke and shorted and doesn’t look like there’s anything holding the wire other than the white stuff on the edge.

Most people at this point would buy a new motor.

If you have a million hours on your time, you could unwind that coil of wire, repair the broken wire, and rewind it.

Thats a fairly old version. The enamel on the coils is not very good and this is basically inevitable.

If you buy a more recent version the coils will last a lot longer as we found and upgraded them to a much better enamel wire and also the resin coating holding the coils in place has been improved.

Put on new wire

The same polyamideimide enamel but maybe more of it often called “Heavy build” with double the enamel.

Not sure how doubling enamel thickness takes the temperature rating from 170 to 220C but the new stuff is definitely a lot thicker.

Someone I spoke with said this happens from debris getting in through the vents - example : sand kicked up from riding near beaches. I assume this is accurate, and to OPs problem, probably triggered by something similar?

or brake dust, which is on practically every road and is often metallic

the motor wire could be 220c rated and single or heavy build. Heavy build having double the insulation thickness

I think you should post the specific materials and their ratings of what ur using and people will then KNOW it’s better.I wonder about the stator and magnets too.
I assume the worst when places don’t state the details.
