So basically, is it possible for me to make a 13s battery pack and connect it to a boosted stealth?
Will a boosted board start without detecting a boosted bms?
The story goes:
I have a friend, and he has used his boosted stealth for daily commuting for something like 15 months. His board is one of the good ones and it has had zero issues during all this time. And it still works just fine. The problem is that the battery has gone though quite a few cycles and the range he gets out of his board these days is something like 6 miles.
Now what he wants more then anything else in this world is a boosted stealth with tons of range and i have no problems making a battery and 3d printing a good looking enclosure. But i get the feeling boosted probably put some crap in their electronics making this hard.
Does anyone have any info they can share on this? Surely there is someone out there who has tried to replace the battery on a boosted?
There are ways to add an extension pack to the main battery, but as the main battery seems to be fucked already, I wouldn’t risk that.
You will need the boosted bms to speak with the boosted esc, so it’s not that easy to just add an other pack.
What your friend could do is just switch the escs to a vesc based esc. With it he can use what ever battery he want to.
Why not? The original cells are 13s 18650. Rumored to be HG2. It seems only the older packs where a123. I have already prepared him for the fact that he more or less needs to go over to vesc. But i like this guy a lot and would love to be able to help him. But if the bms needs to talk to the esc it does get rather complicated.
My bad. I somehow thought 13s was on the lifepo4 packs, but you right.
@longhairedboy took apart a boosted xr battery not long ago I think.
Maybe there is a way to remove the bms and use it on a fresh diy pack. If yes, than that would be an option.
I did. Nothing short of automotive grade debauchery in there. Direct cell swaps aren’t feasible as a service because the pack is built like a damned Lemarchand’s box. I was also told by somebody on insta that the BMS can detect different types of cells so a replacement has to be the exact same type of cell.
Once I realized what was in there, I gave up on the XR.
Damn.
It’s like Boosted was looking at how Apple do things and went full “hold my beer”.
Well i do not have the time or patience to figure this shit out. Its easy enough to just swap the battery and ESC for the normal DIY stuff anyway.
Yep. Also, just a heads up, I think some of the motor wire is fucky. Can’t remember but wires are switched or something. Bought my daughter a V2 Dual+ with 10km on it a few weeks ago. Was a crazy deal and was thinking about flipping or parting out. She likes the flex deck so also thought about converting it to use conventional parts. There are problems all around and it seems to have batches of issues.
