I'm using my Esk8 to do DoorDash in Vegas, any tips or advice I should look out for?

The Stinger just straight up stopped working, I threw it away after replacing the esc and both motors just for it continue to be unresponsive sub 1000 miles. The Propel pivot still works but I dismantled the Drive train and have half an omni sk8 gear drive installed. Don’t have the money right now for the exway gear drive to MAYBE be compatible with this board until after I buy the speedboard. Need a guaranteed pre built right now before I go back to the project board

Just consider too with a speedboard that when you come to a light or have to come to a stop, you HAVE to step off the board because it won’t self balance. On an esk8 you can just stand on it and start going again without having to get back on. Might not seem like a huge deal but with heavy bags, backpack etc I imagine it would get annoying and old quick

For sure, plus tight corners where you hop off the skate and kick it around, speedboard would suck for that

Hate to be that guy but nothing comes close to a long range EUC with a decent trolley handle for doing deliveries efficiently.

A big esk8 type thing is about as inconvenient as it gets, 2 wheels just take away even more from the convenience factor. A small esk8 might be okay for a spare vehicle.

That said I’m sure a speedboard is a lot of fun to ride. Just not the ideal tool for the job if the main goal is earning money.

I’m tunneling hard on the speedboard since its the next thing i’m adding to my quiver. I’m trying to hit the ceiling for what I can buy and utilize in my quiver thats exclusively chain or gear drive. I’ve had too many bad interactions with belts and it would take the Funwheel X7 too long to ship out for me to consider buying that before the speedboard. I dont mean to give so much pushback, thanks for the feedback and engagement on this post btw everyone!

EUCs are all hub motor, generally zero maintenance and recent models are more reliable than esk8s if you shop smart. I wouldn’t take a onewheel either for deliveries personally, I’d need to lift it way too often to go into certain places and it’s one of the worst form factors for that, not to mention it really isn’t all that stable at higher speeds. Regarding belt, it can be done well, like the parsec, but that’s the exception in terms of what I see and not the norm.

I completely get wanting to experience different styles of PEVs though, I also do but for me that’s exclusively hobby. The only PEV I have which is not recreation focused is my EUC. It’s a workhorse and pays itself off in terms of gas money and convenience very quick. I also finish tasks quicker with it than I did with my car (even without traffic) due the excellent bike infrastructure here, plus the time saved every single stop by seamlessly transitioning between riding and walking right at the door at the destination. A bit less fun to ride arguably, but it’s unbelievable how convenient it really is for deliveries and errands. I almost don’t even use my car in the city anymore since I bought the EUC. I clocked over 600mi on it doing deliveries within a month of having it.

It all depends on how much you prioritize maximizing earnings vs fun though. The EUC is slightly less fun to ride, and more interesting things are nice to have in the quiver but if this isn’t just a temporary job or a side hustle you do to ride more that also pays a bit then I’d highly suggest considering an EUC as well.

/anyways that was enough EUC propaganda, just wanted to make sure I get the value of an EUC across well.

But absolutely not that. It’s nigh impossible to carry that, what if you need to go upstairs, or inside a business, which can happen frequently? To be fair, it does make it a lot lighter to carry around when it gets stolen while you’re upstairs, but then it’s more difficult to get around.

Why not just small and light esk8s?

It rolls up the stairs with little effort from you if it has a decently positioned trolley handle and a large diameter wheel. You could even ride up the stairs with some skill, though not with a delivery bag full of stuff. Older buildings here often have a few steps to get up even to the front door, I just trolley the wheel up there. Going down stairs is pretty easy while riding, no need to get off, I do it quite often. The only times I get off are pretty much if I have a drink in one of the flimsy cupholders in the bag.

I was never told not to take the EUC inside the restaurant, so I just trolley it inside.

I never needed to lift it during work and I go into buildings with it a lot. It would definitely suck to lift it.

The only places where there’s no elevator are small residential buildings, there I usually just leave it inside the building on the ground floor, which is totally fine here for the maximum 2 minutes I spend upstairs. If I take the elevator the wheel comes up with me though.

With the EUC I can hop up curbs whenever I want without getting off, maintain higher speeds, no need to take care about potholes because the suspension and the wheel diameter handles everything, turning radius is basically zero (like a kicktail board but requiring less skill) which is good to aviod pedestrians in the walking street, transition between riding / walking is the quickest, no need to fiddle with turning a remote on/off at every stop which wastes a bit of time. And I ride a lot in the dark, having proper lights that are high enough to light up enough of the road for me to see, integrated into the vehicle, means I don’t need to separately charge helmet mounted lights. Also I need about 50km usable range to guarantee that I last through the whole rush hour on a good day, without having to return home early.

Small light esk8’s dont have the range that im looking for. Im kinda insane, my goal once this takes off or if I get a stable job until it warms up and get more consistent for me to do this, I want to buy a Propel Ruckus and install their gear drive in it along with getting an Exway gear drive onto my Propel Pivot. I just can’t think of any street boards that I want to use out of the box unless we get to these EUC and Speedboard price points

What EUC brand’s do you suggest and think have proper quality control

I love eskates and all, but if it were for a job with the primary purpose of making money, I think I’d just try to find a cheap electric motorcycle or maybe a 50 cc class road legal electric scooter. I pretty regularly see older Zero motorcycles in the $2-4k range. Even an older one should have a ton of range compared to even pretty long-range eskates. I might consider an EUC if I were more comfortable riding them, but there are advantages to being fully road legal. Also, I’d expect far less maintenance on the motorcycle than an eskate or probably an EUC, but again I don’t have much experience there.

After 1000 miles on an eskate, I’d be looking at nearly a full disassembly and reassembly, and expect to replace some things. With a motorcycle, I would maybe give it a quick visual inspection every 1000 miles or so.

Motorcycle’s aren;t a viable option because I live in vegas, i’ve seen and heard so many sketch horror stories of how these cager’s have absolutely 0 regard for someone on a bike. I’m not taking the risk of going into traffic and dying for this gig, I just need money to pay rent and finish trade school so I can move again already.

Does Vegas have really good bike paths? I’ve only been there for eskate con, and we didn’t take any on those rides. The only time I feel safer on a skate is when I’m on a fully separated path. When I’m around bad drivers, I’d put being in a car as safest, followed by motorcycle/foot pedestrian about tied for different reasons, followed by anything else, including bicycles, skates, etc.

When I lived in Florida, I stopped bicycling for transportation because I concluded the safest thing to do would have been buy a gun and start shooting people who tried to run me off the road.

Edit: I changed bike to bicycle in a few spots. As a former avid cyclist I usually mean bicycle when I say bike and say motorcycle if I mean motorcycle, but it’s ambiguous and different people use bike differently.

I’d probably get a Leaperkim Lynx if I was shopping for a second wheel, most of the recent leaperkim wheels have great reliability. And I only heard good things about the Lynx. If you need more range than the Lynx offers and go up in weight, then the wheel will feel less nimble, I’ve been told by a few people that the Lynx hit the sweetspot in range vs nimbleness for them.

I’d probably consult someone with more EUC experience as well though, as I’m not following new releases that much.

One note though, if you can find someone in the community (perhaps by going to group rides and asking around) who would be willing to lend you a small beginner EUC for a few days, that’d help the learning process a lot. It’s easier to learn to absolute basics on a lightweight wheel. Doable on the big wheel as well but it sucks scratching up a brand new expensive wheel with a mistake that could’ve been easily avoided by spending a couple hours or even just a single hour on a small and crappy wheel.

They have decent bike paths, I just prefer the freedom of being able to hit the sidewalk or take back routes of parking lots and shit If I see too much sus driving or if Im on a main road with nothing but traffic. I’m ok with spending this much money on a speedboard or funwheel and not a motorcycle because 1. Safety from previous comment 2. Really don’t want much else stopping me from getting certified in my trade, and staying afloat while I build up a savings to rent a house somewhere on the east coast or Texas. 3k On a motorcycle isn’t as feasible in my eyes compared to the EUC, Speedboard or Funwheel for my situation. I kinda hate living in vegas and moving here was the worst choice I’ve made since trying League

I vote for Funwheel or an ebike, eucs are nice on the mountains but very dangerous in the city. If you loose traction or your tire gets deflated then you will have a 50kg torpedo hitting pedestrians :sweat_smile: .

I agree about the versatility of the euc, it’s a work horse. Some guys are pushing 20k miles on their wheels. Low maintenance but there’s definitely a need to be fully geared up - full face - knees hips back chest shoulders and elbows with a good gloves with wrist pro. I mostly ride for pleasure and the eskate is my good vibe so i don’t personally ride euc, just with them around on group rides. :grin:

Smashed the fuck out of my pinky nail on my remote hand while on the bus with the Nyz z1 FEATURE where the front axle is super fucking loose because the bushings are the worst part of the board. You know it’s a bad feature when even Scott Davies brings it up in his SPONSORED video.

January is slow due to new years resolutions, people being broke post holiday spending and everyone waiting on tax refunds. I heard from from 1 buddy that does doordash that Monday and Tuesdays are always ass

The default screw setup for the bushings with the Nyx z1 isnt good. I’ve gone through 2 pairs of these bushings because they will just fall out and come looser. Smashed the fuck out of your finger depending on how you hold the front truck. The handle fell off like 1200 miles ago when I accidentally gave a car that pulled out in front of me a love tap
