I have some new @IDEA mounts and thus finally a proper system with idlers. While mounting them I quickly realized though, that I am not 100% sure what the optimal idler placement is. An internet search gave me as a result that you should put them in the slack side of the belt. However I usually only have belt slippage when braking so shouldn’t that mean I actually need to place them in the usually tensioned part as the sides reverse when braking (assuming braking is just like driving in reverse)?
Where do you position your idlers? What’s the “optimal” way?
This by itself does not tell us much. Are your mounts on the back truck and forward (going to the underside of the board) or backwards facing (sticking out at the rear)?
I did a test today and it felt like the idlers on the tensioned side while riding (so slack side when braking) perform better: The belt did not skip at all while it actually did skip when mounting the idler the other way. Now this might be highly subjective and was by no means a scientific test (I have no way of measuring actual belt tension for example) but could indicate that we should actually mount them different to what @xsynatic has done so far. @xsynatic have you ever tried them the other way?
No. My old IDEA mounts could only mount them on top iirc. The Sabre mounts could mount top or bottom but i chose top again since that’s what i was used to. Never had skipping issues if my memory serves me right.
