I can still see it, this post
I trust that fiberglass reinforced tape with my life. I put it on my skin to test how adhesive it was and when i peeled it off, my entire ethnicity came off with it
Yeah, I thought it was the industry standard, I wonder what we’re supposed to be using?
Fiberglass tape is good strong stuff!
Im pretty sure all dave uses to hold his packs together is his reputation as an esk8 icon. No wonder they are so flimsy.
What’s up with the enclosure? Looks destroyed.
Aha. At the very least, that tape is better than his nothing
I taped the shit out of mine just to be sure
MY LORD, that has got to be the sickest burn I’ve ever witnessed
Lol that would work, double layer shrink wrap?
Yes
Isn’t there a hall of fame for roasts here b/c I definitely think this should be on it
I went ahead and dug up the pictures of the battery for you.
This is the pic of what happened on one of the first ride’s. As you can see there is absolutly nothing wrong with the enclosure.
The buyer updated the post saying Dave told him the battery amps were to high and to reinstall it like this at lower battery amps and try again.
I believe the first pic I posted was from after following said advice and the heat shrink melting more from a further failure. At which point the pack was returned to Dave for repair.
Now, aside from that being the worst advice I’ve ever heard. The pack is 5P with 40T cells and also pictured is the 4.20FS+ esc the guy was using. There is almost no way that esc can handle battery amps high enough to damage a pack that large without blowing itself. Which, in my opinion, strongly suggest poor pack construction is more likely to blame.
A little bonus for everyone. Dave doesn’t even use boxes to ship his batteries. They’re wrapped, with the enclosure, in bubble wrap and plastic by the looks of it
I can confirm this. My first ever battery from him was just bubble wrap
he puts that stuff on his completes packaging too. Fedex hates it, according to one truck driver. not sure why its there really.
because bubble wrap doesn’t really slide against other boxes or container, high friction will either stop it from moving smoothly or just fucked other parcel’s arrangement.
not just Fedex hates them, all courier / forwarders hates them
Also, don’t ever use duct tape on packaging. Ever.
They all hate that too. For the same reasons.
Eyy I’ve been going it right, I’ve been using boxes with reinforced bands of packing tape…that is right, right?
yeah. or just clear packaging tape. Anything designed for packaging is fine.
usually when i ship a battery i put it in a bag, wrap that bag with bubble wrap, then put the whole thing in a larger box and float it in biodegradable peanuts.
but you can also just bubble wrap and box… because you’re probably not filling your family room with 200 cubic feet of peanuts in giant bags… what have i done to my home.
brown paper packing tape(whatever its called) would be best, but they still won’t love u for that
