What do you ride?
What is your riding style?
Why do you prefer one over the other?
Have you ridden both?
I only had a short short run on hypertrucks and they weren’t tuned by me but they felt nice and responsive compared to every other spring truck I tried. I love the matrix 2 for reference. Bought them a few days after trying them on another board and bought another pair recently.
The matrix 2 have had some QC issues (none personally), I’ve heard zero issues with hypertrucks.
The hypertrucks are expensive and stronger, but also generally look nicer. They would be too wide for some trail riding in my opinion. I see them better as an all terrain cruiser truck than a jumping truck or heavy trail rider.
I’d love to get to try hypertrucks on a personal setup to get a better full review.
for what it’s worth, i have never ever seen second hand hypertrucks for sale
i hope the community proves me wrong, my paypal is on standby if anyone wants to offer to sell me one or two trucks
keep in mind that there are now more options for precision MTB trucks, thanks to @3DServisas and @NoWind
I feel bad for people asking about Hypertrucks because unless you take them off someone’s LaCroix or you’re Andrew you really can’t get them.
I’ve pretty much given up on my dream of a Prototipo with Hypertrucks because of this. =(
i wonder how much of the magic comes from the @RipTideSports precision urethane bushings
“we don’t sell shock blocks for mbs” grr
It’s a wedge of urethane. All I’m saying
Nothing to offer experience wise but I’ve seen people having trouble with squeaky bushings on the hyper trucks and people changing from nylon bushings to bronze flanged bushings
And a lot of MBS M2 quality issues
Second this. Goes beyond m2.
Squeaking went away with a little bit of grease applied to the kingpin
Plus one
I would highly suggest asking. I’m far from the only person with HyperTrucks anymore.
Re: original topic. It’s pretty difficult to compare $200 entry-level trucks to a $900 complete trucks/mount/wheel kit.
The Matrix2 aren’t my cup of tea personally. Even on the softest bushings they are a bit boring to me. With that said they’re probably the best bang for buck when it comes to channels.
The Hypertrucks are something totally different. Hard to explain but it’s just a different class of truck entirely. This isn’t me fanboying, ask anyone who has started to push channels beyond 30-40+mph.
HyperTrucks shine because they provide a more stable platform for high-speed carving. I can ride in ways that are simply impossible/unsafe on my Trampa or MBS trucks. You have maneuverability afforded to you in the 25-35+mph range that doesn’t exist on smaller trucks.
I’ve heard you’re only supposed to use free-range organic non-GMO no-harm beeswax.
Yeah. I was one of the first people with nazare Never read that but I used food grade synthetic grease. Very light coat
I’m too broke to have hypertrucks and some Mexican snagged my matrix 2s before I even tried them so I don’t know what I’m doing here
That’s right. They were available at the time of buying my drivetrain but I chose not to go with them.
Say it right brother. the complete phrase is “dirty ass Mexican” lol
Thanks again brother. I’m a set of deck inserts away from getting her done.
I’m also considering hypertrucks as we speak lol
When I received my secret santa present and actually thought there would be hypertrucks inside… but yeah the box was to small anyway… if only hahaha
I ride Matrix 2. Started with orange/orange, went to yellow/orange and now yellow/yellow
normaly carving and sliding at low and moderate speed 20-30km/h with DKP trucks. With the M2 more like a fast carver 40km/h and speed demon 50km/h+
Yes, the Hypertrucks just for a short test though, but off road on a motor cross track and on streets.
I prefer the M2 over the HT because it’s more nimble, carves easier and I don’t need the more stability that the HT offers. I’m fine at 60km/h with the M2 in yellow/yellow setup. Even if they were at the same price I would go with MBS but preferable with a CNC version from E-Toxx/3D, which I will test in the next days further.
They are both good, but not perfect trucks in my opinion. The HT is too sluggish for my riding style and the MBS is too twitchy. I don’t like this crazy bounce from the shock blocks which pushes you always back to the center. Especially in long curves/turns I can not holde the line due to the kickbacks. The only solution for this, in my opinion, would be to use bindings. But I don’t want to on a long board. I would wish for softer, less bouncy shock blocks from MBS. And of course more reliability. But maybe E-Toxx or 3D solved that problem.
I second this. They were available for 800$ a pair incl. motor mounts.
Wouldn’t call the M2 entry level trucks, just because they are not as expensive as Trampa or Lacroix. I prefer MBS over both and the price I consider reasonable, not even cheap for cast trucks.
fully agree with that.
Yepp, you got it on point. They are stable high speed trucks. I could imagine go 70km/h or 80+km/h with ease on those trucks. But they are not a carver heaven.
Didn’t try it personally, but I can imagine, that you are right. But it’s a totally different style of carving. It’s not that high/sharp turn where you go from the left street line to they right street line while your board is almost at 90°. It’s more like skiing or snowboarding, but with more effort, so for me personally not in a good way. But I can totally understand what people like on them.
That said, I still don’t know a perfect channel truck or at least one which fully satisfies my like a traditional street truck. But the development doesn’t stop and I am sure we will finde better solutions in the future.
