HOYT ST. UAV [Urban Assault Vehicle]

Hi everyone!

The team here at Hoyt, @JJHoyt @GeraldSwerdfegger @BenjaminF @jack.luis, have worked their butts off getting the UAV to market. So here she is!

The UAV project started as an effort to modernize the Hoyt lineup. The esk8 industry has been moving quickly these past few years; features like pneumatic wheels and higher voltage batteries have become the norm. Where others toed the line, we zigged and zagged; the UAV was dreamed up to be the ultimate carver, rocking top-of-the-line performance with a focus on inspired and organic design.

We crafted an electric longboard that holds true to our deep roots in the skating tradition, only diverging when we have something kick-ass to add (and there is a lot of kick-ass)!

ROSA Truck System:

Instead of another cookie-cutter DKP or channel truck board (which has flooded the market to the point of stagnation), we chose to build an innovative RKP truck system from the ground up.

To make them truly unique, we worked with real downhill riders (such as sponsored downhill racer @sparkospeed) to do a ton of active research on what makes the most stable RKP truck. His input, with the help of @RipTideSports, allowed us to create the most stable RKP truck system on any esk8 ever. We are calling it ROSA, which stands for Rake, Offset, and Split Angle.

Who knew you could make tight turns AND be stable at high speed.

Duodeck Platform:

Our Duodeck is an extremely unique design, made up of many layers in a unique asymmetrical shape. The bamboo layers are split into two halves that each play a structural role. The outcome is a firm standing platform with a strategic amount of flex in the tip and in the tail, providing the cushion of a flexy deck with the stability of a stiff deck. The Duodeck is built in Portland Oregon at Bamboo Revolution by their master bamboo craftsman.

Non-Improvised Wheels:

The wheels are one of the first developed explicitly for esk8. The hubs are a custom-sized CNC 6061 Aluminum 6 spoke design with a built-in offset for the mass of the valve stem. The tubes and tires have the highest factory speed rating we’ve ever seen on a production board; 31mph for 2000km with a 200kg simulated rider weight. The situation that we’ve come to learn is that most tires have not been speed rated. We are aware of popular tires that do have a speed rating from the vendor of 10kph. As a rider, that might be something one could build confidence in and ignore; but as a company, it is too much risk exposure. Ignorance is bliss but once you have that knowledge, you have to act on.

One of a Kind Motors:

Our fully custom Burnside Motors are a result of magnetic field simulation and years of field testing utilized to optimize power-output efficiency and torque-curves for single-rotor specific applications. The new XF Generation 3 Brushless Motor Series produce industry-leading performance and are built to the highest-quality standards and manufacturing technologies available; including proprietary techniques never before introduced. All XF Gen3 versions are high-grade, Japanese brand quad-bearing supported for exceptional durability and vibration-free, smooth operation.

The stator construction uses the highest-grade, 0.2 mm silicon steel laminations and military-spec, Polyimide ultra-high temperature (240°C/464°F) windings for optimum efficiency and power transfer. Permanent bond to the stator is achieved with a Kevlar-tie wrap around all stator teeth and vacuum-pulled epoxy coating to reduce chance of winding failures.

USA Made Battery

Whos that duck

You already know the handsome duck behind the silhouette. You already know his work.

With his help, we now have an extremely robust PCB based battery. The configuration is 12s4p using Molicel P42a cells. Using this design, we have battery construction down to under 2 hours! It is also very flex tolerant and easily repairable; The BMS is a Daly 12s that can be replaced without any tools. The discharge and charge leads are connected using very robust screw terminals.

This pack is capable of 80A discharge, which also happens to be the (combined) max battery current setting on the Hoyt St. UAV.

Technical Specifications:

Ooh, I see that you offer these trucks + mounts as a part for DIYers on your site! I have some questions about them:

  • What does offset here mean?
  • How wide are the trucks? (Hanger + axle size)
  • What’s the biggest sized motors these can fit?
  • Axles are 10mm, right? (Add that to the website plz)
  • Center to center distance?
  • You didn’t even mention the self-tensioning system built into these

(I already checked the motor dimensions and it seems like you use the standard 44mm M4 mounting pattern most esk8 motors do, yay!)

Edit: Board looks alright too, I guess /s

Thank you for all these excellent suggestions Raitis! We will work on adding them to the Rosa Trucks product page. :slightly_smiling_face:

Does it need more salsa? I think we have a jar lying around here somewhere. :kissing_heart:

You joke but I bet a blood salsa-red UAV would look :fire: :fire: :fire:

Are those vents or potentially intakes I see pictured on the enclosure?

just cosmetic

As @Evwan said, they are purely cosmetic. The pieces are solid.

While we do not claim the UAV to be water-resistant, we have done our utmost to eliminate ingress points for water or dust.

Thanks for all the nice comments everybody

@rusins We are working on adding more info on our ROSA trucks to the website, thanks for your input.
