Hoyt Puck - New Firmware - Beta Testers Wanted! [SERIOUS]

I spent my entire time at Hoyt screaming about this and pushing to fix it. I can’t wait till Hoyts are shipping with this new firmware

They only got things done after u left

Haha I was testing this new firmware for a while before I left

So when I tried the new firmware I was disappointed because I had been using the old puck in left handed mode to eliminate the feeling of throttle lag, and the new firmware did not feel as responsive as the old fw.

I had suspension that there was an actual time delay not just a throttle map curve, so I did some tests with the racebox GPS module.

The tests were done sitting down on the board so I could stab full throttle to remove a position map curve from the equation, and I repeated the runs 3 times in each direction, alternating between a remote with the old fw in left hand mode, and one with the new fw in right hand mode.

The result is that I doubt you’d be able to tell which one was which.

And yet the old firmware still felt more punchy in left hand mode when riding normally. So I increased my polynomial curve in vesc tool from 20% to 35%, and now the new firmware feels as punchy as the original!

Thanks @jack.luis and @BenjaminF for helping me test and dial in the new fw. Its a great improvement over the original.

1.8 sec 0-20 while sitting is insane :exploding_head:

Its easier sitting because you can hold onto something haha. I always do full throttle tests sitting down on new hardware to make sure nothing blows up before I do it while standing.

1.56 standing up took some practice!

You’ll love playing with the racebox.

Yeah I’m excited for it, should come on Friday. I’m gonna try to aim for under 2 seconds, we will see
Sitting down going fast is scary dude, you got balls

So I’m gonna be the black sheep here and say I don’t like the new firmware. Just makes the throttle too jerky for my liking. Caught me out a few times today and almost fell off the back of the board, also feels like it just makes 2/3rds of the throw redundant.

I know you can’t downgrade the firmware but I’m assuming if I want to make it like it was before it’s a
-ve poly curve?

Hahaha yeah i’m feeling you on that.

But yeah. The built in curve is a lot more linear now, so it’ll be easier to tune it to your liking in vesc tool :ok_hand:

Yup! A -20% should do the trick.

I like to think of this update as adding the option to choose your throttle curve instead of being forced into just one

Makes me feel better about not having a downgrade option

This is great! I’ve been running my puck in left-handed mode in a left-handed puck puck Bruce case using my right hand since I found out that it was more responsive that way. Now I can put my puck guts back in the right-handed Batwing case, which I prefer. Now, if you can add a screen with telemetry, it will make it the perfect remote.
Thank you for this.

Really!!! convince me…

There’s lots of things I could say about the extremely robust channel hopping radio protocol we use, signal strength, spread-spectrum broadcasting, etc. etc. etc.

But honestly I think the most convincing data comes from the thousands of Puck customers who collectively have hundreds of thousands of riding miles in all sorts of environments and radio interference levels. Reputations cant just be claimed, they have to be earned. I would say we have earned ours, but please feel free to ask around!

What convincing do you need… It’s easily the most reliable, and the reason i have 3… actually… soon to be 4.

Theres a reason that the puck is so widely loved… at least for its robustness if not its shape.

There are other options if you read up on it… at a very personal level… stay away from the VX remotes… the huge difference here, putting ALL the safety issues aside is the basic honesty of the two companies. You have one that cares and one that does not care at all about your safety.

reputation, the amount of pucks you own, how cool it is or its shape are technically irrelevant. ones and zeros are more accurate than “how cute the puck is” lol!
Do you have actual data to prove what your claim - "extremely robust channel hoping, strength etc…Do you have any real data comparison with other manufacturer?
Trust me i am not trying to be a D head, just trying to have an honest understanding of Hoyts claiming to have the best, most reliable remote control.

Chronic fail thus far.

you are irrelevant…do you have real data or benchmarks report to support your claim? simple question…
i did not ask you how many you own or what color the neighbors car is …stay focus my friend
