Itā€™s easy as 1 2 3 :rofl::clap:

I just had weird situation with puck. I was raiding around super empty complex when suddenly puck vibrated once. Remote stopped responding, board keeps accelerating, like it was still receiving last data from remote (just for a brief moment) and then I felt it let loose (remote disconnected).

I slowed down and stopped. Remote was off, I turn it on again and continue the ride. Super weird.

It looks like remote entered some critical failure state that is not recoverable ? notified me with one vibration about it and turn off. It was not a first time me riding there. It super weird that remote turn off. did someone had this situation ?

Iā€™m riding with firmware: 1.0.11 and replaced, recalibrated potentiometer.

I know itā€™s not a very helpful answer, but this would all be the normal expected behavior if you had simply accidentally pressed the power button and turned the remote off.

Any chance your gear/gloves/etc might have pushed the button? As unlikely as this may seem, it has happened to me.

Are you using an aftermarket shell for the remote? The clearance around the buttons is very critical. If itā€™s even a little bit off, the case can bind up on the buttons and restrict movement, cause phantom presses, etc.

Another possibility is that your battery died, though you said that you kept riding with it after this event. So i guess itā€™s possible that your battery connection is intermittent.

Those are my only ideas, because I have not heard of that behavior before.

Yeah this series of events sounds exactly like what would happen if you held down the power button by accident.

By default vesc will continue the last input for a set amount of time that you can decide in vesc tool. I think the default is 0.5 or 1 second.

Thatā€™s make more sense but there is almost zero chance i pressed the button with my hand. I wore a glove and tried to align my hand in a position that would have chance to press it and there is no way + that happened when I was riding on straight without much of a movement.

Iā€™m using original Bruce shell. I checked all the buttons and they are not squishing switches on logical board . There are quite loose. You need to press quite hard to click them.

I also checked battery connector inside of the remote . Everythingā€™s tight. Wires are also good.

Saying all of that, you are right. Remote just somehow got signal to turn off. Iā€™m quite sure it was not me (direct pressing button)ā€¦ I have another theoryā€¦ that I fucked up and forgot to calibrate remote after replacing potentiometer. Remote will auto turn off if there is no input after X minutes. This happened on long straight probably not by accident. My settings are quite aggressive so I donā€™t need a lot of throttle there. My potentiometer might not have exactly the same values and I might have just set it up via VESC tool and thatā€™s it. For remote, physical throttle movement does not matter, only potentiometer output. I guess it was in range of ā€œno inputā€ and it just turn off. I might be overcooking here but it makes a lot of sense.

Here comes the question. Can Puck can be re-calibrated for potentiometers with different values ? I guess thatā€™s what calibration should be for, right ?

No clue, and I dont recommend trying

Hey, soon to be new Hoyt Puck user here, just wondering about the brake/reverse I see posted. Do you have to press a button to get into reverse, or after you come to a full stop, does the backward throttle auto reverse?

TIA!

That depends how your VESC is configured (smart reverse, full current, etc). The reverse on the remote is really for switching the control to be reversed for a left-handed userā€¦ not actually making your board go backwards.

Got it, Thank you! Iā€™ll have to reach out to the board manufacturer!

Iā€™m so happy the lock mode on my remote unlocks again. (calibration fix) I would never have gotten there if I didnā€™t ask @BenjaminF and the crew about the issue at esk8con. Thanks!

Anyone know if Hoyt ships out remote with latest firmware? I just got my puck couple days ago.

my understanding is that the latest linear throttle firmware is now shipping on new hoyt pucks.

Thanks! Sucks they just announced 2.0 coming soonā€¦ Oh well. Lol

  • added more explicit throttle curve section.
  • called out the estimated change date for new remotes shipping with new firmware.

Pretentiously moved this to The Citadel - Essential References for Esk8

as an ā€œEssential Referenceā€ :stuck_out_tongue:
