So kicking-off then with arguably the most iconic motorsport livery of all time…
Gulf Porsche 917k
Gulf is one of the few brands to be easily recognisable by its colours alone. If you’re into cars, blue and orange means Gulf, and that’s despite the fact that Gulf officially ceased operations 36 years ago!
The Porsche 917 was the sports prototype race car that gave them their first overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 & '71. Powered by the Type 912 flat-12 engine of 4.5, 4.9, and 5 litres, the 917/30 Can-Am variant was capable of a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 2.3 seconds and 0–124 mph (200 km/h) in 5.3 seconds.
The car won the 1971 Oscar for best supporting actor to Steve McQueen in the film Le Mans. The car driven by McQueen in the film went on to be sold at auction in 2017 for $14m, a record price for a Porsche.
