holy fucking shit my board just caught fire

Which is the same product as perlite. With perlite often being easier and cheaper to buy a local hardware or garden stores. (although the pricing and what they have depends on your local stores) Weighs a lot less than sand too.

Interesting. My 100Dx just blew up when applying a throttle calibration for my remote. Burned through the PCB but no melting or damage on the battery XT90 so hopefully the battery is ok.

Adding, I received it around August last year, ordered spring 2022

damn. yer board went up like cheech. :no_smoking:

Vermiculite and perlite are different. Perlite is volcanic glass? Im not sure what verm is but i think they are both non combustible.

They are both soil addatives and yes lol i guess you can use them in reptile cages. But i believe perlite is more for water irrigation. Verm retains more moisture.

Got everything cleaned and checked the battery still charges:

It all looks good. It’s charging fine. 12s battery was at 46.3V. I think it was near full when the stormcore first popped which means it lost about 4V over the course of an hour which I think should not have stressed it at all.

All my plugs switches and wires even look good once the soot is cleaned off so it looks like the only thing I need is a new stormcore and battery xt90.

I definitely got off pretty light all things considered.

Id agree here. I think because of the latest issues with them they’ve been aggressively testing batches they get and have been rejecting a lot. Which means order etas are insanely questionable.

I ordered a makerx and it came in 6 business days.
I ordered a 100Dx in May of 2022 and ended up canceling in October of 2022 after tons of back and forth. They would say they are testing them and would go out shortly. Another week would go by and they would say sorry something happened it will be another week. Which means either they rejected them after testing or they needed to push completes out and stand alone parts got haulted. Id lean towards rejection with how many chared 100dxs and 60d+ ive seen floating around lately.

You spelled ubox wrong

When I was at ESK8con, I spoke to Jackson from Hoyt who reported a seriously high rate of Stormcore failures. I have heard poor quality MOSFETs mentioned in the past.

Does any one know why there is such a high rate of Stormcore failures from the more recent batches?

That’s one way of spelling “fire”

Yeah? Haven’t heard anything bad about them.

I have nothing solid but I would suspect due to covid they had supply issues. They either needed new suppliers, a new manufacturer or needed to change their desgin due to part availability. Hence the switch from the 100D to 100dx . Now someone correct me if im wrong i think the only real difference in the 100d and 100dx is different mosfets?

With the 60d+ the failed ones ive seen had solider splashed all over pcbs probably connecting traces lol…

Huge difference. Almost a full redesign, capable of noticably less power than the original 100D

So redesign, different parts and substandard workmanship. Where are Stormcore ESCs made?

@Drpoppinoff 3d prints them

Why did they do that? Just cost reduction? Working around some chip shortage?
