Hobbyking Motors SK3/SK8/KEDA

I was told one person reads my posts and its you then. Good to know.
In reality all you need to do is check all the bolts screws and grubs. Check the shaft has no end play and fire them up. As with all things Chinese manufactured you may be unlucky but i have found that hobbyking themselves do some basic checking too and replace without question faulty gear. They don’t drop ship straight from the factory.
Hope they work out well for you.

ahahah sorry,
thanks!
what about rewireing ?

Anyone tried using SK3/SK8 with HFI? I’ve tried a SK8 with a 4.12 and it works amazingly, but yet another SK8 won’t work at all with a 6.6, anyone have any issues?

I’m running 2x SK3 6374 192kV on HFI through a Unity with curiously low HFI settings and zero issues.

I got HFI working on my two sk8 motors with dual focboxes. I didnt like the sound so I only tested it on the bench.

Sk8 have very short phases (extended windings)
So not necessary. If you want to change bullets then desolder the old and don’t just cut the wires because of the enamel on the winding cables. Bitch to get off and you can not solder till its all gone so swap the bullets by heating up the old and using the already prepared cables.

Running the same setup, what firmware did you use on your unity?

At the time VESC FW 5.0 beta, so you can go for either 5.1 or 5.2.

Thanks dude. Guessing you updated it via the PC/mac vesc tool rather than the unity mobile app?

I am using 2 sk3 149kv with external sensors since three years.
I never had problems. Good start from stand and great torque .

Anyone have any luck finding a 38mm x 25mm x 7mm bearing? I can only find oil seals in that size. Pleanty of Bearings in the 37mm x 25mm x 7mm size. Maybe hobbyking had the wrong size on their page?

Do you use the brass shaft bushing that comes with the motors? It acts as a circlip and you need to mount your pulley flush pressing on this bushing, if you dont there will be nothing retaining the can except friction and magnetic pull.

Now that you mention it; I specifically didn’t use them because they were too long for where I needed the motor pulley. There’s half a millimetre of movement on each motor can but I never thought a design would be so bad as to hinge everything on a single bushing.

Though I just checked and yes with force it can be pulled away. Could be a problem if it happens at speed but I don’t think it will as it hasn’t yet and it’s been many miles.

That said I need to find those brass bushings and cut them down…

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

No worries m8! Glad I could help

I cut them down with a dremel, just some light filing and you will be fine :ok_hand:
