Griptape over bolts?

Hi Guys,
I was wondering, does it make any sense to grip over the trucks bolts/enclosure bolts and other holes in the deck ?
In terms of aesthetics it can be nice, but in terms of usability and maintenance, not too much I guess.
Any opinions on that ?
Any magic techniques of tightening the bolts even if they are hidden under a griptape or so ?

At some point you’ll be chopping that tape up to get to the bolt, might as well do it neat from the start.

I think exway does this, just to make the whole thing look better.

Meepo now does

Countersink fender washers into the deck so it’s still flush and your feet won’t feel them

Then you can just cut the grip tape around the circles.

Your title needs an update… it’s got something to do with the Kieran dude in China.

I’ve been wanting to experiment with affixing grip tape using mounting spray. It works like strong painters tape adhesive. The idea is that when you get things just right, spray the deck and spray over the adhesive on the grip tape. Then apply it. It wouldn’t last as long as regular adhesive, but you could possibly peel it off and reaffix it a few times. Might be worth a shot.

Just get a heat gun. Heat up the grip tape, that activated the adhesive and it pulls right off.

You are already putting a hole in the enclosure why not just put threaded inserts in the deck them you don’t have to worry about the grip tape over the bolts

Why countersink fender washers if you can just countersink flat heads into the deck? Less material removed from the deck, still sits flush and the bolt head grabs to almost the very top layer?

Over torque would pull the bolt head into the deck. Same reason I use an x thing.

Yes I know over torque would also pull a fender washer through so don’t even say it. DON’T. EVEN.

I was pulling washers into the deck on my drop mount so I just asked @akhlut to make me some cheaper versions of https://www.riptidesports.com/backing-frames-102/

hoping like $10 a pair or so

I have seen this a few times but have been worried that it would be more prone to splits. Really interested to see how it holds up.

They’re really shallow, only 2.1mm. The deck is petty thick too and definitely a hard wood so I’m not worried about it. I’ll let you know first if it splits underneath me though.

I’m gonna suggest this if that is a common problem for you

Fender washers are cheaper

I have a torque function on my drill as well though.

How did I miss this? Great idea!
