gear drive lubricating alternatives

I’ve been wondering, would be PTFE lube spray any good for lubrication of gear drives?

and possibly even motor bearings from the outside after water intrusion?

Following because I have a can 2 feet away from me and often wonder what all I could be spraying

MATERIAL OF THE GEARS. Steel gears take different lubcricant then Aluminum and plastic. Plastic is different then Aluminum. Etc. you have to be more specific

Seems like that’s what he’s asking captain

I think Dash is referring to what material his gears are to determine what grease should be used.

Yup @Venom121212, @J0ker is what I meant.

Yeah I took this thread to be a discussion about what they go on and what they don’t instead of a specific situation kinda deal.

Still open for discussion if OP allows it.

I ran my Etoxx gears for well over 1000 miles with…

No lube

And…

They were totally fine.

I have been running my drives with no lube too. I did spray a bit of PTFE at one point

This thread is blowing my mind rn. I had a set of kaly drives…filled them to the brim with grease…still running…right? @Madmiah

I’ve used duct tape as lube for the gears in a differential to get out of the woods. No bullshit.

I ran my plastic (abs?) /steel moon drives dry up and down the block dry and they ran fine but were much louder than with grease.

Definitely didn’t test long enough for consumption analysis.

Etoxx and Moon are not materials, I feel like a lot of readers may not know if those are plastic, aluminum, or all-steel.

Steel on Steel open gear drives I ran no lube for 500+ Miles. I only run lube on track days.

which steel?
which plastic?

well, the idea originated at one point when I was buing something in supermarket that I could use to lubricate bearings after I wash my board. I did propper washing today, searched for “lubricating SK3”, nothing came up.

at first, I lightly sprayed around the bearings, then sprayed some between the can magnets and the stator. for science reasons

then I was wondering If the PTFE eats the enamel, and whether I just fucked up my indestructible board, could not get absolutely any info.

so, then I read something, should be cool for low friction lubrication, so gear drives popped in mind. two weeks ago I lubricated my Fatboy helicals. I filled every tooth with a spatula and then squeezed the volume lightly. every matching surface of the gears is covered. they should be plastic wheel gear and steel motor gear (as @3DServisas states on the current website). did use about big spoon of that official 3dservisas gelloish bad dragon cum lube for each of the four assemblies  could not get any info of how much is required, necessary of beneficial  so trial and error here I guess.

also, would there be reason to think differently about straight and helical gears in terms of lubrication?
or herringbone… (I’ve seen the picture somewhere @DerelictRobot :D)

They were when I took them off the smorgasboard, and will be again once I put them back on.

I have been using this stuff on my etoxx gear drive, works great, very silent.
Jens confirmed the gears won’t be affected.

Virtually every gear system benefits from lubrication. Use a bit of grease at least. PTFE spray will work but likely wear off overtime. High quality grease lasts a long time
