Gear drive for Onsra TKP?

Hi everyone, does anyone know of any gear drives compatible with the mounting pattern for Onsra TKP trucks, as found on the Black carve 3? I have them on my diy and love these. However, I have been fed up with broken belts and was wondering if there might be something compatible.
As far as I can see, the Omni gear drive would be the answer, but it’s for the d-shaft motors, and my Flipsky’s 6384s have a round shaft with a keyway.
I understand, that right now I would have to either replace the motors for ones with d-shaft, or buy a whole new system with rkp hangers either from Bioboards, 3D Servisas or Boardnamics
Thanks!

Onsra never came here to hang out and learn our standards. They’re more like a European guy telling a Chinese esk8 brand roughly what to make.

All I can suggest is asking @Boardnamics to make you some adapters but that doesn’t mean it’ll work with the axle lengths and stuff

Are the onsra TKPs the same mounting pattern as the generic DKP hangars that most chinese brands use? If so, maybe the 3DS gear drives made for evolve could be an option.

I’ve got Onsra TKP and im planning on putting some Newbee 4GS drives on it. The 20x20 3DS clamps fit the profile of the Onsra TKP hangers. When my clamps come in, I’ll put then on and post them here. The catch here is that I’m using the front truck since it has a 20x20 flat profile and no motor mount section. This allows me to use any gear drive that has 20x20 profile, or types similar to the Boardnamics gear drives.

If you plan to use the truck with the motor mount hangers, the options I’ve seen for those are either Omni Gear Drives, 3DS Evolve Gear Drives. Newbee is currently designing a truck clamp that uses 3 motor mount screws, so his gear drives can be used on those types of trucks. Might be a long while until these cmalps come out though.

You can also just replace the back trucks for with a similar hanger from another vendor, then use the gear drives that they’re compatible with, etc Boardnamics drives with precision hangers. Or just use a whole other truck.

38/11 gear ratio is pretty high, I think that AT tires are the only option with the newbee 4gs right?

Yeah. For lower gear ratios on non-AT builds you can probably try 3DS, Boardnamics. 3DS has a lot more gear ratios below 1:3. Just need to check that it’s the 20x20 clamp profiles or fitment. Both have abec, kegel drives so the hub choice shouldn’t be a problem.

Hi, did You got your hands on that NewBee 4gs gear drives? I messaged them and they said that the clamps will fit, but they say that the axle is too short, at around 4cm (specifically the front hanger). Any updates? Thanks!

Yup, the Newbee gears drive are here but the 3DS clamps are arriving in a couple of days. In order for me to use them on the front hanger, I have to remove the axles. Take the axles from the rear hanger and put them in the front one since they’re longer.

I’m using Flipsky 15.2 inch trucks on the front, and I’ll need to cut 10-12mm off the axles to get both trucks at the same width. You may or may not need to do this depending on what length your axles are.

Here’s some visual representation

I’ll have to cut 15mm to match the width of the front trucks, then cut a slot in for the grub screw. Of course I could not cut the axles and leave them longer. But I want my wheels even, and I won’t need the extra stability from the wider profile.

This is with the gear drives ‘dry mounted’. With the cut, I’ll still have enough thread for the nut and for the even wider hubs. I plan to fit 6485 Reachers in this hanger. 95s might be possible but thereby be almost no space in between them :joy:.

That is lovely to see! Thank you
So you’re going to use the 3ds clamps, and not the 22x22?
How do you go on about the length of the axle outside of the bearing? The thread only goes halfway. How will you insert the wheel nut? That seems like a too much of a gap for spacers, unless I’m wrong

The axle thread will still be the same length. It’s just the length of the inner axle that I’ll be cutting to remove excess overhang of the axle. I haven’t cut the axle yet which is why the gap is there, but once I do, the thread will be up to bearing.

And yeah, the hanger’s dimensions are 20x20. When I got my newbee drives, there was an error and I got given 1 22x22clamp and 1 19.5x19.5 clamp. Just waiting for the 3DS clamps to arrive, which are 20x20.

Right, makes sense.
Please update us after you have cut the axle to size! I can’t wait to see that

Haven’t cut the axle to size yet, but here is a dry fit if the Newbee gear drives on Onsra TKP.

Can comfortably fit any motor size up to 85mm length on the hangers. The 20x20 3DS clamps worked nicely, I just had to shave them down by 1mm though to fit them tightly, then I used a hammer to push them to the desired position.

If you get any gear drive with a 20x20 dimension and it ends up a little too small, I HIGHLY recommend you slowly sand the clamps and keep checking whether it fits tightly or not. I almost sanded the clamps a little too wide, which would’ve rendered the clamp useless. Saves ordering more and waiting for delivery.

Perfect, thank you, I love this community.
Why is the original axle too short? Can’t you just push the gear drives closer together, inwards the kingpin? What hubs are you using?

The rear truck axles are longer because they need to account for the wheel hub + wheel pulley lengths for the belts. The front truck axle is short because it only covers the length of front wheel hubs. The trouble is it’s too short for most hubs that support gear drives.
I tried pushing the gear drives closer initially, but the hubs themselves were the entire length of the axle ( bearings covering the thread so couldnt put nut on). This method would also cause motor bite cause motors would be too close to the truck baseplate.

Any MBS or Trampa hubs work with the Newbee Gear Drives, and most other gear drives. In the picture are trampa superstar hubs, which are I believe 45mm wide?

Keep in mind the way I’m putting gear drives on my Onsra trucks is verrry roundabout and wont be the best fit for anyone else planning on doing the same. Only doing it like this because I like the setup I have with the 15.22inch DKP at the front, and the benefits of the Onsra TKP at the back. Hoping either Onsra gets gear drives for these, or vendors can make gear drives with the standard 3-hole motor mount clamps.
