From lurking to building: 3 years in the making

Hey everyone!

I’ve been following this forum for a few years now, ever since the XLR was first announced. I’ve never been very active, but I’ve spent countless hours reading your posts, checking out your builds, projects, and upcoming boards.

This forum is actually a big part of why I ended up ordering my Mach One, my trusty ride for almost two years now. It’s also where I found solutions to fix my first broken motor, and where I’ve spent hours dreaming about my own builds.

So first of all, a big thank you to everyone sharing their knowledge and experience here. Even silent readers like me get a lot out of it!

A quick introduction: I’m Irvin, 32, passionate about board sports and video games.

My boards:

- Kaly XL40

- Kaly XLR

- Radium Mach One

I’m an independent developer, and for the past 3 years I’ve been working away in my little cave on a project called RYDR.

The idea is to build a social platform dedicated to board sports. Think a mix of Strava, Instagram, WhatsApp and Pokémon Go. For the gamers here: Riders Republic, but IRL!

It brings together ride tracking, interactive maps, spots, nearby riders, social feeds, groups, challenges, leaderboards and events. Basically, everything you’d need to connect with other riders and spend less time jumping between different apps.

The project goes beyond e-skate too, with the goal of bringing together different board sports communities.

I’ve been hesitating to post about it here for a while, always waiting until things were more polished. But if you keep waiting for perfection, you’ll never show anything!

And honestly, I think this community has a lot to bring to the project. You know your boards, your riding habits and what riders actually need better than anyone.

RYDR has been in beta for about 6 months, with 3 months of open beta. We’re currently at around 180 registered users and 100 monthly active users, mostly in France.

With the public launch getting closer, I’d love to use this final month of beta to gather feedback, criticism, ideas and feature suggestions.

I’m not here to sell you anything. I just want to share a project born out of the same passion that brings us all together here.

If any of you feel like giving it a try and telling me honestly what you think, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks for reading, and looking forward to chatting with you all! :call_me_hand:

Sounds interesting! I tried downloading it, but google play says it’s unavailable in my country. Not sure if that was on my account registered in Denmark or in Hungary, but I’d appreciate if you’d look into it.

Just opened it up and started setting up a profile etc..

Suggestions so far

  • Fix the language, seems to be half in english, half in french
  • Maybe some sort of option for people to add boards to the catalog that aren’t in there yet? I tried to search for Newsesh GTP but its not in there

Had a quick look around and it seems really cool! Keen to put some kms on the board!

Looks like the Ridehermes app the OneWheelers use, which is a good thing as I am a fan of it.

Lets you lay down trail segments and find new ones. Will check it out for sure. In your opinion, what does your app do better?

Hi thanks for the fast return !

About french :

  • Yep like an idiot i start the app without translation first (was just meant for me and friend). I started translation about 2month ago, i may have forgot some text in the ui. Can you pls tell which one you see in french ? If it’s about user’s posts, i’m currently seeing options to auto translate them without ramping up the costs ( like on reddit or yt)
  • Yes for now you can add it in diy. But yeah instead of adding board by hands, i should think of a system in which users can also add board if there not yet in database

You can swap km for miles if wanted. I’ll look for you in the app and add you

Well to be honest i have not tried onewheel app so i don’t know what my app do better..

But apart from ski/snowboard when you’re in a resort (in france), there is not yet proposition of new trails. But it’s among my list of future features.

But rydr is not just a tracker with stats, it’s more like a irl video game with lots of quests, daily and weekly personalized quest, classement for segments ( you can create your own segments), and a worlwide leaderboard.

By riding you gain xp and levels, wich unlocks more contents, and lets you personalized your profil.

You can see who’s riding on the map, events or groups near you.

Tell me about what you think once you tried it, would love to know. I’m sure you’ll have usefull feedback to improve rydr

I noticed the french on the buttons when i was confirming my avatar, and maybe in a lot of user profiles

I guess you’re on ios ? Apple is a bit longer to validate. Should be good in 24-48h

and notifications!
