All true… but for a first go, a pot life of less than 10 minutes can make for a botched job.

Very, very true. Working time is important until you get a system down and know what you are doing.
I started with a slow hardened with a about a 40min working time. Now I use a faster hardner with about 15 minutes. Plenty of time for me now. But if I had started with it, I would have fucked some shit up early on.

Yep, I got the slow set one just because I had never used it before. I wanted to give myself some time to fix my mistakes (which there were def a few of them) next batch I buy will be the regular stuff since I feel like I have a much better understanding of the process

How about using a coarse sandpaper on the aluminum lid. That is bound to create micro grooves that the epoxy can hold on to.

I would guess you are right, that epoxy would get a better bond to the aluminum.

I don’t like to try to remove any I just brush it off with my hand to get rid of the stuff that didn’t stick. You can try lightly sanding the frit is certain spots

So I was reinforcing the GTX deck with fibreglass after routing most of the deck away and wondered about skinning it… I went to the local op shop and found a sweet star wars doona cover, now at least my stock gold motors will have some relevance.
So I did a layer of resin and fibreglass cloth and let it go tacky before adding C3PO… then I stuck him down and put on another thin put fully impregnated layer of resin.
I’ve ended up with this really textured finish, that I actually really like, but have no idea how I accomplished it. Will be making some glass frit soon to complete the finish. Was thinking to epoxy the frit in and then do a few coats of polyurethane aerosol for uv protection and seal.

Is the glass frit easier to clean than grip tape when your board gets dirty? I have some rubber grip tape cleaner for wiping out the dirt but it’s always a struggle. I wonder if that’s any better with the glass frit.

Hahaha, was the best way I could make it fit!
So you got the wrinkles due to not waiting long enough for the first step to cure long enough before wetting out the fabric. After letting the first coat get tacking and adding the fabric, allow to pretty much fully cure before wetting it out. This ensures it is really locked in place before actually wetting it out.
