Forget the grip use Glass Frit

So i´m thinking of only partially decoring a Hummie deck.
Ideally a transparent sticker would look nice, so you can still see the deck applied with some printed stuff on top.
So sanding, epoxi, sticker, epoxi won´t stick you say?
Is there a method to do that, because printed polyester fabric is only good if you lay that on the whole deck?
@Sender Do you have a secret method for partially laying graphics on a deck?

Sticker is hard because it does not soak up the resins.

I only used a full sticker on a deck with transparent griptape. That´s working, but partially and epoxi needs another way. Question is wich one…

I got lucid grip from sickboards.nl last time and it’s working like a charm:

It’s labelled medium frit, although I feel it quite fine grain for what people used to put on their decks.

You could try hydrodipping. Or cut out a small section of your printed fabric but epoxy the whole deck. There’s no reason you have to cover the entire deck in fabric, you just have to make sure it doesn’t move during lay up.

I feel that the edge of the fabric would be hard to hide even if cut really nicely.
Certain stickers may hold, like @Skunk 's sticker bomb, but ultimately would create a barrier to adhesion.
Paint is probably best, or legit car decals :man_shrugging:.
I’m curious what @longhairedboy uses for decal/pin stripes

Artists encase painted skate designs in epoxy. No idea how that will hold up vs the superior adhesion directly to a wood deck, but probably better than stickers.

he removes them after applying color :handshake:

thought of that too, but i dont like lucid grip so much…

You´ll see edges, even if you cut it nicely (which is a pain in the ass with some contures anyways).
If you only have a few stickers you should be ok with just laying epoxy over everything, but i don´t feel so comfortable if we have more than half of the deck covered with stickers.

My decals and pin stripes and other accents are die cut vinyl. I use minwax one coat water based polyurethane and glass frit over it.

Ahh really? hahhaha you re cheating!
This is not how it was meant to be by Graig Frasers “cheap tricks and special FX” :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy:
Decal pin stripes? Herb Martinez please help me out of here hahahahha

there is nothing cheating about the process of making die cut art or using die cut vinyl stencils in spray can spot color processes. Everything about it is time consuming.

Jk longhairedboy, I know about the amount of work. You would know me a bit better but will never post any artwork of myself again. Anyways, you know what youre doing.
Im jk jk
Nice you mentioned them STENCILS. Or do you really bury the decals in coat?

It didn’t hold FYI lol.

The sheet of stickers is a solid piece that basically floats on top of the wood and isn’t actually refused to it.

What if you do “little holes” to make it “porous” all around the deck once stickers are applied? Would the epoxy or resin go through the holes and stick it better?

Not sure if I explained myself, weird thing to detail on a non native language

Anyone used this site for their glass frit?

They seem to offer a bunch of options but I’m not sure to go with medium or fine frit.
Don’t want it too harsh

Not sure how their grind compares to Bullseye Glass (USA/Oregon), but I got the medium grind and found that it was just a slight bit too large for my tastes. Next time I’m going with fine grind
