Flux Deck - Removing stock grip tape

OK, so I pushed the button on a Flux Motion AT2 deck and enclosure recently and it arrived this week. What a lovely piece of kit indeed.

Problem for me is the grip tape it comes supplied with. I need to remove it, firstly because it’s set up for Regular Stance and I’m Goofy, but also because I want to do my own design.

Never removed griptape before and don’t want to fuck this deck up. What do you guys recommend for my method ?

Take a heat gun or hair dryer and start @ one end. Apply heat to loosen up adhesive and start pulling.

Have purchased the same deck and have the same “problem”, I’m goofy!

Isn’t the grip in a % pattern though?

Same process would apply still. Just more pieces to pull.

I mean it’s got a pattern that works for goofy and regular doesn’t it?

Oh! Yeah I have no idea. My bad lol.

Don’t use excessive heat with heat gun. You will compromise top fiberglass layer. Try with hairdryer instead.

I’ve used it (heat gun), but I wanted to get to the wood. You don’t.

I still think EBS needs to offer a natural wood deck.

So purty!

Now that I’ve seen your wood, I want that too :flushed:

Is the top layer a sticker with logo?

Couldn’t you just add the parts to make it goofy similar to the original layout? Seems like less work

Not just sticker. It is a layer of fiberglass, epoxy and sticker. Quite thick layer. Once removed with heat gun you have to do some sanding to remove epoxy residue.

This was flux deck version 1. But I think the new one is the same.

What a miss!

actually this post turned out to be a total ‘none post’ as I went to start removing the grip tape this afternoon, only for it to peel off so easily that it left zero sticky residue on the deck and I now have totally clean looking deck ready for my own tape application.

Whilst this is good for me, it does make me wonder how long it would have lasted had I been a Regular Stance rider and just left it as is.

All’s well that ends well I guess.

I was going to suggest this. The times I’ve removed grip it went fairly easy without heatgun/hairdryer.

Waiting for that nice Aphex Twin logo-grip. Big fan of your builds!

Did that affect flex at all, that you noticed?
