Hello everybody,
I made a PSA about how to flag on the old forum about a year ago and it helped solve the problem but not completely. I couldn’t remember if there was a topic about it here but a quick search seemed to be blank in that area (please correct me if I’m wrong).
"Recently there has been an increasing trend of members flagging their own posts to signal the mods for closing a thread or editing an old post.
Please, for the benefit of both the mods and members, avoid doing this. If you need to get the attention of a moderator to close or edit a thread, a PM or an @[name] is perfectly appropriate.
Flags are reserved for things that are actually inappropriate or in violation of our forum guidelines, so please use them as such."
For anyone who is wondering why it might be an issue to flag your own posts: when a post is flagged an alert is sent to mods and admins with the post, the person who flagged it, and the reason why they flagged it. Staff then tries its best to decide the right course of action to take with flags. Depending on the flag, it will show up permanently on your profile, which could make you seem less trustworthy to people who don’t know you. So - please - if you need to have a thread closed, a post edited, or something removed, simply @ or PM one of the staff and we’ll help you as soon as possible.
No, this isn’t a policy. It’s just something that I think is important for people to be aware of. It’s definitely in everybody’s best interest to avoid flagging your own posts. Thanks!
