First esk8 Build!.. am I doing this right?

literally the only thing Flipsky have going for them is their basement prices… but even that doesn’t work out cheap after it fails… some of their motors can be reliable but caution is needed for which ones will work best for you

Strength to weight ratio is much better with fiberglass (or carbon, but it’s conductive), regardless of use case.
Any amount of flex on a deck will tend to crack an ABS enclosure over time.

15mm is pretty much the standard, 20mm is nice for big boards.
I ran my thane board with 12mm belts and didn’t notice any efficiency benefits.

Flipsky has had its ups and downs, these days their battle-hardened motors are good and ESCs good when/if they work. And their remotes are good value, although still not as reliable as the hoyt puck.

15mm belt components are basically the “standard” for esk8 right now (if there is such a thing). Boosted used 12mm when they came out years ago. I’ve had very good luck with my TB 6380 motors so far on my board. No real complaints.

Ok update. I got everything except the Trucks and wheels, which I’m actually having a hard time deciding . This build will mostly be used on the road and the target is to go 15-35 mph and be as comfortable to ride as possible.

Since I’m rocking dual 6380 motors it’s gonna be a long truck. I’m debating between the Calibre III 10’’ , which look pretty sick, and Boardnamics 184mm or 220mm precision hangers + buying baseplates separately, which a buncha people love. There’s probably some better options I don’t know of out there.

As to wheels, I read the wheels thread and now I’m debating between 1. cloudwheels, 2. kenda pneumatic 200x50s 3. hollow wheels 4. boa wheels. ugh it’s so hard to choose I want them all.

lets say within a $200 - 300 total budget, what is my best option :face_holding_back_tears:.

Zoobomb 111 wheels would be better than cloudwheels or boa wheels.

What deck are you going with? Pneumatics might not fit, or might be a necessity, depending on what you choose.

BN184 won’t fit dual 6380 motors I think, so you definitely have to go with 220s, and even then I think only forward mounted. Search this forum for some builds using those parts to get an idea of what’s possible or not.

Also maybe picking up a 2nd-hand drivetrain including trucks and wheels from someone on here might be the best way to fit into that tight budget.

Hey thanks for the wheels comparison thread, that was super useful!

A new foe has appeared! This looks really nice, does it chunk easily?

I still got the tb40 deck since it’s my first electric board. It looks like there’s a decent amount of space for the wheels, and yeah looks like 220s is the way to go.
Total budget for wheels + trucks + pulleys is $400, if that helps.

You’re pretty much left with pneumatics only

consider that independently form the wheels, if you want comfort more than speed, going with a super stiff deck isn’t the best move
