Fire suppressant system

Ah I see the only thing I see wrong would be enough pressure on top of the nickel connected to the cob thing to actually keep the two connected while riding

Just use a winfly compression pack and explosives bolts

Ooh explosives now you caught my interest

I’m imagining a MTB with flaming cells popping out like fireworks…I’m not gonna lie, it sounds HOT AF

A top mount battery would be even better…

Heat seaker deflector system?

I feel like this is way more efficient at shooting burning lithium ion flares all over the hillside

Are burning batteries a serious enough problem to justify the work to make enclosures and batteries that release the cells? I know it sounds cool but it would be a lot of work and seriously limit the way a board could be made and the limit the number of cells you could fit

Definitely not. Simply the forethought to prevent a fire is enough. I was trying to start a discussion to gather ideas. For my personal endeavors I will be carrying a small shovel to cover the fire to minimize the chance of it spreading.

But rapid release cells would mean you can carry some sort of belt loader with fully charged cells for an on-the-go battery replacement.

Not completely out of the question. Explosive bolts are old news. We use release devices that can be reset now. They use a shape memory metal - heat it up and it expands a lot. Wrap a nitinol wire around a nut split in three pieces. The tension in the bolt forces the nut elements apart when the nitinol is heated and expands rapidly. We buy complete mechanisms, space qualified, for about $4000. I would think you could home brew for $100 or less. We use electrical power to heat the wire but you are planning on an event with plenty of heat.

Paranoid me always carries a bag of extover when with my board. It’s a special lithium fire extinguisher granule made of puffed glass. It melts and forms a shell preventing oxygen to get to the fire while cooling it down at the same time. It helps my peace of mind :innocent:

I did not/do not/will not carry anything like that.
I use safe and reliable batteries only.

Of course, actually I know every cell of my battery by name but I still need the bag to not use it

I am wondering why not fill all the empty space in my enclosure with extover instead of quasi fire resistant foam? It comes in small beads and one of the uses is packing for shipping batteries.

Small fire extinguisher top mounted with hose pre-fitted directly into the enclosure, such a small space it may be effective

I’m picturing this in my head, so cool

What about cutting a fire blanket to line the battery, too much heat retention?
