Evolve bamboo battery disassembly

I am going to make new battery for my bamboo gt and took apart the old one. These seems to be lipos and i thought Evolve is using li ion cells. They were all in series and 7ah rated battery. What are your thoughs.

The older ones are lipos. New ones are ion.
Longhairedboy has a battery swap service.

Better save your bms or you are essentially going to have to gut all the electronics, Esc included.

Like @Arzamenable said, probably just gut it.

These batteries are known for sag and kind of hard to work with. Depending on your budget you might want to consider a different path than re-using the evolve ones.

While this seems slightly hypocritical of me to say, as I reused a ton of lipo cells from landwheels, I have 6 cells in parallel so the sag isn’t an issue for me, and I knew how much effort I was in for when I started the project. I did it for fun, not practicality.

A full gutting is a pretty big under taking if it’s your first diy adventure.

I was butthurt for awhile before I got it working again.

I have batteries for new pack and i was planning on using the old bms. I read lipos and li ion batteries are almost same so will the bms work fine? And are bms wires wired like any other bms?

There are well documented posts (I don’t know where) that cover this. Hunt for them.

There is a crucial communication link (uart?) between the proprietary Esc and the proprietary BMS. If you do go forward, map out every thing before you cut on it.

You can not use another BMS if you want to save the Stock ESCs.

As a result, you can not use the evolve remote if you don’t save the ESC.

I can upgrade the bms and esc if i have to but if those old one work “fine” i will use them. I am going to make full custom board next summer anyway so if i can use evolves it would be better.

I have taken pictures everytime i did take something off and i know that evolves parts work only with them. It is hard to find that post i have tried. When i took the battery apart it was hard to intedify how the bms wires were done. Tomorrow i will get more info when i get to work the project. I was curious if you guys knew the wiring.

The .builders forum probably has what I was remembering then.

@longhairedboy might share some insight if he has time. This dude has rebuilt countless Evolves
