Am I the only one that struggles to get a board working reliably? Every time I try and fix my board I’ll break something else, or I gotta wait weeks for parts from china. Just the other day I had my board in the most completed state it’s ever been in, then an auxiliary power wire came loose of its crimps, dropped on an esc and threw sparks everywhere. Now my entire system is unresponsive, one of the escs won’t show lights at all. It’s just super discouraging seeing all these cool builds and knowing that I struggle with a simple one
You buy the thing, get it 4 weeks later,
Then realize it doesn’t work right or it then kills itself within the first week of use.
Then cycle and repeat…
Yeah, that would suck big time. The one thing I do religiously is have spares on hand. I currently have four sets of spare motors, 2 extra controllers (one dual, one set singles), an extra battery, multiple sets of wheel and motor pulleys, 4-5 decks, a few extra remotes, and shitloads of assorted stuff like connectors, solder, and wire.
If you’re in a position to do so, stock your shelves as much as possible for when shitty things happen.
Definitely need to do this. I just haven’t figured out the perfect setup so I can buy spares of that. Thinking of getting rid of this board and starting fresh because I don’t see me being able to get this thing going
eMTB look dumb af with em goofy ass rc car tires, N battery boxes people be sporting.
Like, Na, that huge black box in-between yo legs not low key at all and they be hella expensive just so you can give the elderly couple on the dirt path a heart attack when you and your trampa tsg lookin ass dilly dally through a park for 10 min…
No, but most people just chalk it up to user error and don’t discuss when things break down.
Reliability is like the #1 thing that the esk8 world needs.
Instead, folks just try to go faster and further.
But the facts are that a broken board doesn’t go fast and it doesn’t go far. The best way to optimize “fast” and “far” is to optimize “reliability” – like the old tortoise and hare tale.
Ahhhh… Yeah and no… I get your point but also consider the fact that a nitro drag car’s engine is half destroyed 3 seconds down the straight and it needs a rebuild every run… But it’s doing 300+ before most sports cars gets to 60… Sometimes fast requires sacrifices to “reliability” like a race car to a honda civic…
I’m picky when it comes to having my board work a particular way, and if I feel that it won’t be reliable on a ride then I simply don’t ride. Safety is more important than going fast
This is a hallmark of “toy” in the “tool versus toy” theater.
If I need to go somewhere, my board needs to take me there. No matter where it might be… or when it might be… because life happens. But I definitely use mine as tools first and foremost. Tools that are extremely fun to use.
I feel like that is a very important distinction. Otherwise it’s like the weekend track racer giving car setup advice to the guy who just needs to commute to work daily… The people who esk8 purely for fun and prioritizes performance, and those who uses it as actual transportation that needs to be reliable.
