Encounter over an angry man, who's in fault here?

Context: we were riding in a tunnel, there was a wet section of it, so we decided to go onto that small section (which is not even a sidewalk), to stay dry.
I rang at that guy in front of me signaling that I was about to pass him, then he had a pretty negative reaction of us being there.
What’s your opinion on this?
Indeed there wasn’t much space, and it was a bit cramped but I tried my best to make him aware that I was behind, and I was about to pass him…

Looks like it’s the jogger’s bad mood if you ask me.

You rang your bell and was going relatively slow as well, not as if you’re zooming by.
He could have been the better man and just went to the left juuuuust a bit and let you all pass but not everyone is like that in this day and age.

I’m not sure what language you guys are speaking, able to give a rough translation?

It’s French

He seems sweet.

Clearly that tunnel belongs to him. How dare you ride kindly and warn people around you. You deserve an even worse reaction than that!

My bet would be that he’s angry just because. You guys didn’t really do anything. Still, also interested in a rough translation

I can’t hear clearly cause I am in a very noisy volleyball match but the gist of it is that it is for pedestrians , the skater asked him if he would be so kind to move over and he says he would if he wanted to.

Edit: Now that I managed to hear the video in a more quiet environment this is the worst translation ever.
Ofcourse @tamatoa still liked it and he speaks French

I’ll try a quick translation:

Ding ding!
Runner: were you guys staring at my ass?
Esk8: damn straight we were, it’s pretty sweet!
Runner: you realize how hard I have to run to get an ass like this? And you think staring at it is free?
Esk8: sorry bud, didn’t realize you charged!
Runner: of course I charge, gotta our food on the table.

As others have stated looks like everything was done with respect. I dont speak french so its tough to fully understand the engagement, the only thing I may have done differently is to keep going after passing him rather than hanging back and continuing to engage.

I would have let him scream on his own, watch him despectively a couple of seconds from head to toe and tell him: enjoy your jogging session before pushing the throttle to max speed.

Just be careful to not fall full scorpion in front of him, that would be embarrassing :cold_sweat:

I gave my camera to a friend, he was filming for me, I was the guy that rang the bell and overtook him.
Note that I don’t think we ever saw this dude before, so he definitely never saw us before.
Rough translation:
Running guy: Who do you think you are? (after that some incomprehensible words)
Cameraman: Calm down sir
Running guy: Why are you riding this…??? It’s irresponsible (0:27)
Cameraman: Sir, I am asking you to calm down.
Running guy: You need to calm down. (0.33)
Cameraman: We did nothing sir
Running guy: Really? You are riding like crazy people here among pedestrians, you know how fast are you going?
Cameraman: We are allowed to go up to 25kph…
Running guy: you are going faster than 25 here…
Cameraman: It’s for fun (although I personally think he shouldn’t have said that. )
Running guy: Your fun, if you run over a kid who is playing with his ball… (or something like that)
Cameraman: You think that we are ignorant?
Running guy: Yes…
Bla bla bla…

Even though it seems that “we” are dangerous, bicycles and other scooters all go pretty fast in this tunnel, this is like a “high speed tunnel” for runners, bicycles and electric mobility devices.

I’m quite happy I got this on camera.

No way to win the discussion at this point, he was clearly overwhelmed by the first rider that passed him by, apply my technique next time and keep it cool you will have fun on him on the next point of reunion

You guys where totally in the right here. However, the “for fun” comment might have triggered the runner. Or he was just having a bad day, it happens.

If that’s not a sidewalk, then what is it?

If it happened to me I might not react like him but I understand where he’s coming from. You have this huge area to pass him and you decide to pass him on the inside.

I am in bed it’s early and watching the video without sound, thanks for the translation :joy:. Without sound it looks like you are right about what he said.

Watched it with sound and all I have to say is that people from that wonderful city of love are known to be in a crappy mood anyways.

I thought that exercise helped raising good mood hormone levels or something.

Just yell “Omelet du FROMAGE!”

That’s what childhood cartoons taught me at least.

lol @amms50 apparantly learnt that too :joy:
I don’t get it personally. It supposed to be Omelette aux Fromage.

btw french are typically rude especially in cities.
Just say
‘’ ta gueule conard’’ or ‘‘ta mere’’ or va t’enculer’’ works well everytime.
please do not translate the above btw
also not responable for a punch in the face.

in all honestly the cameraman dealt with it very well and the jogger was just another know it all so nothing you could do. You guys said and did the right thing an made no problem so a green light from me :slightly_smiling_face: :call_me_hand:

On top of that he did not make way at all after he realized you were behind him he just hogged the path.
