E-Flexboardz mechanic

I love the idea of the internal gear.

Its all looking great dude!

It’s a 10S2P (single layer of cells).

I plan to make a thicker deck to accomodate double layer battery

Installing straps and wheels to test with a Kitewing (hopefully, there will be wind and not too much rain) while waiting for a new esc…

installing old fat 9" x 3" wheels on the longer wheelbase position. They are quite heavy (1 kg each) but are rolling like a flying carpet.

Have you considered installing wheels with HUB motors? or Would you have spare frame to sell?

Yes and yes…
Yes, when the frame development will be completed, from prototype to product (reliable, convenient, not too expensive…), I plan to sell boards, either with transmission+wheels (to avoid interface problems) or with hubmotors (it just takes a modification of the arms).

So far, I haven’t spend much time on hubmotors as it’s heavier + limited choice of hubmotors but I’m open minded about it.

Btw, which hubmotor model/supplier would you advice? (above 6" diameter)

After solving my electronic/electric problems, everything is back together, including the gear’s carters(still a bit noisy) and the new antenna location on the deck(under the white tape) to avoid transmission problems.

It weights 11 kg with the straps.

Would you work on a smaller version for wheels around 110-120mm?
I am not sure when you would get it it but a nice idea.

Well, once I will have completed the frame development, I can adapt it to different size of board/wheel.

Even though, tilting wheels designs have a limit regarding the gear dimension vs wheel diameter, to prevent hitting the ground when leaning.

Now that the rain has stopped, I had a bit of time to test ride the E-Flex.

No more rattling noise nor electrical/transmission problem and even a bit riding fun.

I’m still very unconfortable with the remote control (not enough video game experience).

I will have to get an action-cam to make different pictures/vids.

That’s pretty fucking cool, man. Your video didnt upload with sound, do you think you could do another one where we can hear what it sounds like?

I erased the sound since I thought it had not much interest (it’s recorded with a phone and as the place was a bit noisy, it was not good quality).

The hand made inner gear transmission is not very accurate but I plan to order better quality motor gear…and also to change for outer gear transmission.

I will make another one with sound later on with an action cam.

Very interesting

It seems like something along these lines would be impossible to get speed wobbles, at least in the traditional sense

Yes, for various reasons (mainly due to the lean/steer relationship) wobble happens at much higher speed on a Flexboardz compared to a regular skate…
In real life, basically, it never happened so far in 15 years.

Below is a simulation made by Simpack, a company that make a software (multi body analysis) to assess the stability of high speed train …Yes, train have speed wobble problems

Board height adjustment + RTC/ergonomy…

Winter has been a bit complicated but still a bit productive. Here is the 3rd version of the E-Flex.

The purpose was to make a thicker deck for larger battery (2 layers of cells) and to implement few modifications/improvements.
The conception has been long and erratic and the execution has been a mess.

I had to cut/grind/redo and the result is quite ugly. (the vertical parts at the tips of the deck are not definitive…but usefull for rigidity, ergonomy and to fasten accessories ).

However, the result is encouraging : it’s strong and light. The board below is 5.5 kg (no electric part except the enclosure)

Next version of the deck, with 1/3rd less material and 90% less stratification mistakes :

How’s with electrical, motor system? Do u still plan on using inner gear?
