Gonna make a separate post branching off of an idea from the Duality truck thread where I suggested making a comprehensive tutorial and breakdown of everything about the trucks. Besides the obvious, if there’s any nuanced questions about them that you wish to be tackled in said video, I’m happy to hear them out on this thread and work to the get them covered while I’m in close in touch @Titoxd1000
For the time being, here’s what I got:
Dualities 101: how floating kingpins ACTUALLY work *ahem Exway*
Assembly 101: where to use Loctite, why is that one bolt so damn tight, how to make kingpins actually float, how to change bushings quick
Hangers 101: hanger widths, installing clamps, centerset vs offset
Baseplates 101: flat vs angled, why wedges, lean (>) or (<) steer, what are lean stoppers
Bushings 101: formula, duro, shapes, washers/cups
Dualities 201: mixing up bushings? what angles? how wide hangers? for the street or track?
Dualities 301: future? long term issues? improvement theories?
They ride most closely like Matrix 2s to me but don’t get sloppier every ride and the pivot point won’t wear out as quick. The standard bushings do loosen up as they warm up much more than channel wedges though. I hated it at first but it’s like training wheels the first 10 minutes of my ride before I can get shwifty on my carves. As my ride confidence grows, they let me push harder in the turns.
To me Dualitys seemed so different from matrix II…
Kind of on their own really.
To be fair I do call Matrix III with Singularity the poor mans Dualitys. That set up reminds me of the Duality range. And turning. But Dualitys are much cleaner with zero , I mean ZERO slop…
In ‘Assembly 101’ don’t forget to mention that the arrows point to the center of the board. I’ve seen more than a few posts where folks have both arrows pointing forward and thus the front trucks are installed the wrong way (as I copied, did, and got wrong).
I flipped it around last night, and am going for a ride in about an hour, pretty interested to see (feel?) what difference flipping the front makes.
I’ve also swapped out a blue for red on the rear, so am now running red/red back there - trying to get the board (EVO Mk1) less slack-line floaty at anything over 25mph with the Titos.
Sorry, normally I photograph everything so I can document it, but I thought the trucks would be straightfoward so skipped the photos. Having regrets of this now….
On the face of the truck that mounts to the board there are about 5-6 etched arrows that look like this >>>5>>> They seem to make sense if they are facing the front of the board. (Mostly because the rear trucks have a clear angle to them).
In the middle of the arrows are the ‘5’ and ‘15’ to make it even clearer which are the front and which are the rears.
Yeah, super confusing what the arrows are about.
Point in, point out, some have arrows, some don’t. @Titoxd1000 said they don’t point at all, but show where the flat spot is.
Just had second breakfasts and coffee here so going to check my board for the eleventy eighth time to see how many ways I got it wrong.
