Dual motor or larger single motor?

So I just finished up my build with a 10s2p battery I built and a 6355 motor from TB that’s about 3 years old but has less than like 10 miles on it. So my question is should I invest in another 6355 and vesc to make it dual drive, or should I just buy a larger motor like the 6380 and call it a day?

Upgrading the motor won’t do anything if you’re already near the limit of the ESC. And if you upgrade the ESC as well, then you’ve already spent almost as much as an upgrade to dual, with none of the benefits.

So go dual.

But beware, that a 10s2p battery won’t supply enough power to max out a dual setup. You probably want 3p at a minimum, if not 4.

When one side of my cheap Chinese board died, I knew right then and there that single wheel drive would never cut it.

Seemed just completely intolerable losing traction every time I went to accelerate if I didn’t keep weight on my driven wheel.

Unless you never plan on accelerating while turning, or only plan on turning in one direction, then its worth the investment for 2wd.

Awesome that settles it then dual drive here I come, will the battery be a big issue though? like will I lose lots of range

Dual anytime just because of traction, just a bit of dirt or a hard corner and your wheel slips

And for the same reasons way more reliable brakes

You won’t lose a lot of range, but it’s all about bottlenecks.

All the power that gets to your wheels, has to come from your motors. And all the power that goes into your motors, has to go through the vescs. And all the power that goes through your vescs, has to come from the battery.

So if your dual motors can handle like 2500W, and your vescs can handle like 3000W, but your battery can only give you 1440W (that’s how much a 10s2p can deliver), than you’re only ever gonna get 1440W at the wheels (minus losses, obviously). So the battery becomes the limiting factor in your maximum power, rather than the motors or vescs.
