wired like this it will bypass bms during discharge but be involved for charging and limit how many amps can charge with right? Is it possible to not attach the main bms leads and just use the balance wires and it will just balance?
Yes, but put a fuse on the charge port
It depends on the BMS. Some BMS have a B0 balance wire (which is also B-) and sometimes with that type you can leave the big wires unhooked, but only if you’re going to charge at like <1A and only if it’s the correct BMS. Probably don’t do this.
Have you looked into just using some balance boards and a charge port fuse?
