DIY Longboard Deck

Cant find any budget decks around me so I want to build my own. Ive seen videos of people using 2 layers of marine ply with clamps and this seems like the simplest option. Anyone that has built their own have any tips.

This guy has some really awesome content on DIY board building, highly recommend

Edit: if you only plan on making one deck, its likely gonna be cheaper for you to just buy a deck

what other costs would I need to consider?

Plywood
Glue
Rollers
Material to make a mould from
Material to make a basic press from
Sandpaper
Paint/sealer

Shit adds up pretty quick

For me making decks was a lot of work and ended up costing more than buying one.

Yup, if you are on a budget, I’d suggest it is cheaper to just buy one. Making stuff is fun though and you can get something different, but that’s a different motivation.

i got my deck custom made by pine tree skate co, sent them a couple drawings, they sent me back a 3d model, i approved, 2 weeks later i had my deck and fell in love with it. only charged me 150usd, but shipping to the upside down is probably rough. look for a local deck smith whos not too big yet and theyll likely cut you a nice deal.

I think they just do custom art on the deck. I see the longboard for 250$

I’ll sell u a deck! 100$ plus shipping for new or I have some used or blem give u for 70$ that are just as good. Message me.

. Assuming ur in USA. Ooo Australia is far but I could ship but costs go up of course for shipping

Im after a stiff deck, so would it be feasible to make one from a single piece of hardwood?
the cheapest at my local is $270 and there’s nothing around facebook/gumtree

There’s lots of possibilities but why. How cheap do you want to go. What’s you intent for shape or type of deck?
I don’t think a hardwood plank would be great, but could be cheap? Maybe you’d be better to use some clamps, epoxy, thin ply and some carbon or fibreglass to gain stiffness in the layup. Shape of the deck (deeper concave or w concave) can also help give it more stiffness.

around $100, im open to spending more for diy as I enjoy making things myself. double drop through cutaway. I can get free fibre glass and access to tools already

What about resin? Free fibreglass is good, but the resin is spendy…if you can get both of those free that is decision made isn’t it. Composite deck
