DIY electric board with cruise mode and launch mode(very fast acceleration) still prototype idea

This board has 2 modes on purpose, cruise and launch mode. In the “launch mode”, without load on it, it will just spin out of control. With load on it, it reaches 45mph. I also added a second battery, to supply the lights, horn, sound system, etc. This board is not finished.

A full video with details and better footage will be up on my channel, I am currently filming and editing and then it will go up, if you want to check out my channel, here’s the link: My YouTube channel

Specs of the board:

Speed = 45mph
Range = 30 miles
Battery = 12s5p samsung 30q
Vesc = Focbox Unity
Motor = 6374(x2), 190kv, belt
Wheel = 90mm (planning on getting AT wheels)
Remote = Custom, added features
Features(I added) = Horn, RGB lights, Sound system, cruise control, brake lights, turn signal etc.
Price = $1500

Also if you’re wondering how we got that acceleration from those specs, it was programmed in the remote.

This board has 2 modes
- Cruise mode: Acts like any e-board, can reach 45mph, but in a manageable acceleration, control how fast you want to go. Also has a cruise control button.
- Launch mode: This where the acceleration is extremely fast. We made a launch mode for some upcoming plans we wanted to do with it, but for now you can switch in this mode to climb and hill no matter how steep with ease. (Still working on the throttle curve)

Info on the pictures
Yes I know the motors are very low to the ground, I had no problems with them even going off curbs, though I will get longer mounts in the future to be on the safe side.
In the first picture, the board was under construction, but in the last picture you will see that we added a custom case. The fourth picture, in the yellow 3D printed case, is the second battery. In the seventh picture, is the lights which are RGB and can be controlled by the remote.

Interesting. I have a question

How is launch mode any different to just flooring the throttle full blast?

Very cool build :slight_smile: the RGB rainbow looks super cool, I need that too!

On launch mode, just at 20% throttle this board launch very fasted. In the video link, the acceleration was only 45% throttle. I have not yet pushed the throttle at 100% from start yet. From start at 45% I reached 30mph in about 1.5 second or so. I need to get bigger wheel and test at 100% throttle. If this makes any sense. I will post a full video explaining more details on this board on my channel and you can see the launch mode go up a hill like nothing.

So basically no throttle curve, just accelerates as fast as the board possibly can?

But how is this different than just full throttling from the beginning?

Did you change the throttle curves?

You can adjust the curve, but in that mode it is meant to accelerate very fast, compared to when you just want to cruise. For example in launch mode, you can adjust the curve so then when there is a steep hill, you can go up the hill very quick and not to a point of where it’s not ridable standing up, but if you change the curve, then yes at 100% is basically launch like a Tesla would. We did that, because we had a cool idea we are working on right now that would make sense for that mode, but for now you can basically go up any hill no matter how steep, like there was no hill in that mode. We were sitting down on the board because this was the first and trying different throttle curves.

Yeah that was the next thing I was going to point out. Accelerating fast and going fast is cool if you can stay on the board. With a flat deck, ie no drop down, you’re going to have trouble there.

According to a calcuator, at 12s, 190kv, and 90mm, you need a 0.58:1 gear ratio to reach 45mph, this is very small, I doubt you use such a small gear ratio. 1.5 seconds 0-30 with that seems impossible.

Yeah we are going to get a better deck, this still a prototype idea, trying to mess around with the perfect throttle curve to where you can stand up but accurate very fast. So it can take on any hill.

Well we got it to reach 40mph at 85% battery on cruise mode, next time we will record it with a go pro on a helmet.

I like the idea between the different modes. What did you do on the software side to differentiate between launch mode and cruise mode? Is it just higher current limits? I imagined launch mode would push or exceed the limits of the hardware for a short period of time, requiring a cool down period of sorts.

I agree no way you are going 0-30 in 1.5sec.

I saw this on reddit, I’m sure it went down well with the unwashed masses of esk8 retards. People here can do basic math.

M8 for some being unwashed is a way of life. like not combing your hair is for others

Look guys, the 1.5 seconds wasn’t supposed to be literal, that’s why I even said “about” I was trying to emphasize that it accelerates fast, and also, you don’t need to be so negative, I should have been more clear, but if you didn’t like the post, or something is wrong, you could have said it nicely or don’t post at all. I respect other peoples opinions and there thoughts on my board even if it’s not good, but calling people “unwashed esk8 retards” not cool. Hopefully you can understand, thanks. Also I got pretty good responses on reddit.

So is not 1.5 second? What is time?

You’re cocking about with throttle curves and making a thing out of it with exaggerated results.

What is time?!

(Also, welcome to the forum. It’s a great place if you keep your chickens in a line)

and we’re saying “how fast?” because at the moment you’re bragging without proper evidence to a community that has seen plenty of 4WD boards with the equivalent of your hardware :stuck_out_tongue:

That deck is very flat, so unless you’re a very skilled rider / are holding on with your hands, I doubt the acceleration you’ve experienced will be anything out of the ordinary for us.

Welcome to the forum btw, we’re not always so mean :smile: I like your rgb lights btw.

Sorry but basically 80% of people on reddit with an eboard lol.
That is why we highly intelligent NASA grade esk8ers join the forum and eventually be hired for DARPA.

Your board is awesome but with your gearings as everyone says, it’s impossible to go that fast so quick.
You also need to be very accurate when you announce things because we will point it out like a naughty boy like you just experienced lol.

Edit- Did not see that the esc was written down, must have been tired
