Cruiser build - Bonde/Brady deck w/ meepo 3 links

This comes down to personal preference but may I recommend that you run the shortest wheelbase holes with the MLR 3 Links. They extend out the wheelbase quite a bit compared to what the deck was designed for and for me made the trucks feel really vague and disconnected. I’ve actually drilled holes to run them even closer together and the total wheelbase is still a bit longer than the regular 3 links running on the full outside setting. Otherwise looking forward to that enclosure and the rest of the build!

Good to know, I will try that out, thanks!

Yeah @Tasventouras, what Chris said haha

I can’t claim much credit for how well my enclosures are coming out because it’s 90% a result of that killer female mould that @glyphiks created.

But what I do know is getting shit tonne of the right release wax down first and then a top quality Gelcoat really makes all the difference I also throw an ink into the gel mix. I also place the first layer of glass into the gel coat before it’s set which isn’t standard practice but seems to really help that shape and finish set well.

Keen to see your progress!

Well i re-learned one thing today. Fibreglassing still sucks ass

Orbital pads on Amazon are cheap

Bit of a sand, then paint with a bedliner and she’ll come up sweet

Just pulled the fibreglass off the mould and it came of surprisingly easy! This may not be news to anyone, but this plastic film stuff worked a treat for creating a non adhesive layer to the mould. I didnt use any grease or anything, just wrapped the deck and mould before applying the fibreglass.

The enclosure will definitely need some scrubbing up, but overall has a decent and symmetrical(ish) shape

Grab some qcel dude. It’ll make sanding a nice finish a bit easier.

I find when glassing, you need to plan how you are gonna do it first, cut all the pieces and place them in order of laying down.
As @sugandese said I use cheap Bunnings clothes vac bags with 4 layers then just paint a few layers of resin over to get a smooth finished surface. I use epoxy resin though… Found it easier to work with on xps foam.

Took a little time off this build while i converted my raceboard components over to the new chassis. Finally got back into it today while a friend was over tinkering with his build. Was stoked to confirm what I suspected… the boundmotor octopus enclosure fits quite well to the brady/bonde deck-

Im stoked i didnt waste any more time or money on the fibreglass enclosure. As rewarding as it mightve been to DIY that part of the build, fibreglass sucks…

I also had some balancing issues with the Linn adapters, causing the belts to tension too tightly at some points and loosen off at others, so i decided to switch back to the old faithful trampa deep dish hubs which had some landsurf RS tyres mounted already. I do love the look of the Linn hubs, and i will likely use them as my indoor racing hub with some stretched novas on the SRB V5 #33 - a VESC 4WD build/conversion

A quick grip, and now all thats left is to mount the enclosure on, then plug and play. Hopefully get some time over the next few days to finish her off

Damn that fit is almost perfect, that’s a massive win!

Relateable.

Your enclosure came out looking fantastic though! Congrats.

Looks like you had some parts that weren’t fully impregnated, did you sufer from any air bubbles or holes to fill?

I ended up using a prefabricated enclosure by boundmotor, originally for their octopus deck. My fibreglass one is still sitting in the spare parts graveyard, yet to be finished off.

After a few different variations of motors/wheels and drivetrain, ive finally settled on this combo of @MoeStooge open gears, linnpower hubs with landsurf tyres and an older set of @Tony_Stark 's motors which im currently running sensorless till I get the chance to replace a pcb on one of them.

Overall I’m stoked with the finish, especially considering a large portion of this build is spare parts. This board should serve well as a cruiser as well as a good all rounder for people to try out at our I2S sessions
