I’m new in the world of VESC, I’m currently starting my first project.
I have a e-scooter, it’s a Dualtron Thunder 2 and it had burned battery. I got it like it, I cleaned and painted parts I could save, and buy new other parts. Frame and motors are fine.
So I’m making a new battery with 8p20s Samsung 21700 35A 5000mAh, BMS will be able to deliver 230A constant and 525A peak. Battery can do (8x35) 280A, but I’ll limit it to 200A first.
The original controllers were 2x60A peak.
I’d like to use 2x100A controllers VESC, but I’m a bit lost of what I can get.
First I found that the Flipsky 75100 can handle it, and also the MKS 75100.
I also find the MKS 84100 is 100A constant, and has phase line sampling instead of low side sampling (75100). So I’m thinking of buying 2x84100 MKS.
I finally found that Spintend also makes some VESC controllers… I’m lost, I don’t know what to choose.
What is better for my configuration ?
I’ll have the 2 original motors (without hall sensor), a display (Flipsky display) and a twist throttle.
Welcome! although I think you might have better luck on an e-scooter forum. The main thing I’m unsure about is if the hub motors can take all that much current but I can list for you some VESCs, and those are fairly pretty large battery current numbers especially if it’s not 30T, 40T or 45T cells.
MakerX D100S, peak or max of 200 motor and 100 battery amps per side, very compact but difficult to cool exceptionally well. Some have failed recently but the low erpm of a hub motor might help that.
Little foccer or 250R is also around 100 battery amps which is your bottleneck, wouldn’t be my first choice.
I doubt the new Spintend 100V lite will do the power you want but their singles 150A or 250A for $127 and $179 would probably be my choice. The dual Ubox you might have seen on other escooters the standard version definitely won’t do 20S, the lower current J might possibly survive.
I would avoid flipsky.
The most high end option possible is a Tronic X12. A single one would max out your battery. They are really expensive but I think there at least used to be a 2x for $599 bundle.
I think a makerx D100s is going to do pretty well for you. I rode a Vsett10+ with a 16s7p Molicel p42a and a makerx d75, and the front wheel would just never grip. If you want more than that, a set of MakerX G300 would work, but it would be harder to implement.
if the scooter has a keyed ignition, it’s not going to work with most off the shelf VESCs. They use momentary push buttons. If you can find a momentary keyed ignition, that may work, just dont know if they exist.
Definitely a spintend then, they sell keyed ignitions that plug straight into their VESCs and I think they might be compatible with others. There are a couple different wiring options shown on the website too.
MakerX are too much expensive for me, I wanted to find a cheaper solution.
Ok I’ll avoid Flipsky.
I just bought 2x 84100HP from makerbase today, forum 142$ both shipping included. That was cheaper than Spintend, and maybe a bit better current (100A, 200A peak) and has phase line sampling and filters.
