Hey dude let’s not forget that we’re talking about skateboarding which means that the density of the road system and the types of cars people drive and how fast they drive them are the main things here. In urban areas the average speeds are slower and therefore in general more friendly to our favorite mode of transport.
I think you know the point I’m referring to
And it’s not what we’re talking about.
If you wanna DM each other murder rate per capita stats state by state just send me a message
Esk8 has such a high cost to entry in comparison to bikes and scooters. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought a board just to be disappointed by the brand. Not many people are gonna sit there like me and bounce from Isinwheel, to Tynee, to Hoyt St, Propel and Acedeck to only have 2 usable boards after 5 expensive purchases. Listening to my roommate flame me while tossing his car keys in the air while he watched me trouble shoot or have to refund some defunct part that wasnt quality control drove me up a wall.
The wait to be able to afford 2 premium boards on a biweekly check definitely reminds me why people would rather buy once and cry once with an ebike or more commonly advertised escooters. I’m turbo sad about esk8con but I definitely felt the shift in the market man, hate being a doomer but my finances reflect this shit XD
6 expensive purchases* forgot that dud of an ares that was conned onto me from the facebook group
Haha i remember that like it was last month
BRO, im otw home from work, boring training class blah blah. I’m at the intersection, waiting for the light/crosswalk. Dude rides up behind me on an EUC, we get to talking about our rides, THIS FUCKER GETS 50 MILES OF RANGE ON HIS EUC WITH 45 MPH CONSTANT SPEEDS. He even corrected me because I thought I had misheard him, This is the shit im talking about when I say that esk8’s have such an annoying cost to entry. Pay once Cry Once with an EUC or Funwheel or deal with the shit range that we get on all these mid-semi high tier boards!!
Eskate really isn’t about being the most efficient, convenient or affordable price-per-dollar in the PEV world imo, it’s about electric skateboarding. Lots of things are like skateboarding, onewheel etc, but only one is a form of skateboarding.
If the goal is massive range at high speeds then an EUC/scooter/bike is a better device more than likely.
EUCs can also be super robust.
I have 2360 miles on my Patton. All I have done is a voluntary tire change.
I don’t ride it super hard or anything… but the large tire and suspension make it take on everything with ease.
I break esk8s every week it seems.
Granted though, my esk8 s
were put together by cheap unqualified foreign labor…
Esk8 is still my preferred jam by far.
The deep carves man…
But I am a skate rat…
You nailed it. I just want to ride a board. Wouldn’t mind branching into other PEV hobbies but no way any of them will replace mountain boarding. Haven’t tried a jet board though…
I had a 2 hour lesson on a e-foil.
It’s was magical…
It would definitely be the first thing I would buy if I won the lotto.
Another thing I love about esk8 is the variety of styles of electric skateboards.
I enjoy some of my boards that are super analog like. Light, thane, great free roll.
And I enjoy the DKP set up on thane which doesn’t look like anything I ever saw or rode growing up…
And I love all the mountain board variations, both on street and off road, and on snow and on ice…
Ya esk8 isn’t the best choice, one of the most dangerous and difficult to learn. Its form factor forces some serious range and durability issues. Isn’t cheaper for it.
But it’s the only one that is skating, or a board sport really. Everything else is good, gets one thing or the other just nailed from a utility pov. But board sports, skating surfing snowboarding whatever - is fun first and everything else is just kinda a bonus. Dskate said it right, it’s about esk8, not about all that other useful stuff ![]()
A little esk8 does win on portability and ease to take in places.
I think euc even has that beat honestly. Between the little lightweight ones or the ability to use the trolley handles…
Ive never seen an EUC rider looking stylish and non-chalant
I can find a little road crown on my esk8 and reminisce, and pretend.
I could not disagree with this first sentence more.
Sure, if you want to go into a store and have your vehicle stolen while you’re inside, or have some asshole saying “Sir, you can’t have that in here” then all those other ones are indeed better options. But if you need a small, easy to carry, efficient, and lightweight vehicle to fly around the city on, while being able to walk inside almost any place without parking, a well-designed esk8 is really hard to beat. Especially for last-mile commuting. When the escalators and elevators are broken. Or when life happens and you need to make unscheduled trips. Really hard to beat.
What you’re REALLY saying is that lots of folks use esk8 in lots of different ways.
But yes, the skateboarding part is an added bonus for sure, and they are fun as hell.
I think a onewheel is better by your definition then lol
150mm turn radius ftw
You mean you don’t want to look like an android minotaur charging into battle?
My idea of eskate is that 1. It’s a skateboard. 2. It rides like a skateboard. 3. It’s reliable, user maintainable, and economicly justifiable.
To me that means flexible deck and enclosure (or to equivalent effect), 1kwh+, 55kmh+, and I don’t know how to justify it but I don’t really consider my own pnumie boards to be skateboards per se, cos they dont ride like skateboards, and I can’t kick push em.
Nothing beats mall grabbing your small build and walking straight into a store or restaurant. The portability of a small euc with trolley handle just isn’t half as seamless
