Caliber II Motor Mounts

I cut down the hanger so it would fit the wheel hub plus wheel and axle nut.

But now the motors don’t fit… Am I supposed to use a specific hub or something??

You need smaller motors or longer hanger. Get some esk8 specific hangers

You could also mount one motor front and one motor facing to the back. But that might present other clearance issues.

Do the Boardynamics 6354 motors swap out for the stock Evolve Stoke motors?

What do you mean by “swap out for”? If you’re using the internals from an Evolve, I’m pretty sure you can’t just swap motors. Usually, non-Vesc escs are set up for specific motors and won’t necessarily work properly with other motors, AFAIK.

If you want stay with 185mm hangers try these. The rear truck has a longer axle so you can fit the wheel, pulley and nut on with a little room to spare.

You can also shave a few mm off by getting their 12mm wheel pulleys.

Those don’t fit most pulleys with bearings in the pulleys, AFAIK. They sell specific pulleys that take up less room than most. The axles on those are only 42 mm long, while most eskate trucks have axles that are more like 50 mm. The width of the belt part of the pulley doesn’t even matter for the axel length you need, though it does mean you can move the motor and mount farther out.

I specifically ran into issues with those and had to go back and buy different pulleys because of it.

Bugger :frowning: So I can’t get Flipsky 6354 motors and change them for the Evolve motors

I’ve owned bkb boards and built multiple boards using bkb parts. The rear truck axle is longer and their pulleys do have bearings. They will minimally fit a dual 6355 setup but you might get a away with 6365s using 12mm wheel pulleys (motor pulley can be 15mm) since you can push the mounts further out…

One motor per hanger on opposite sides

They will work specifically with BKB’s pulleys. They will not work with most non-BKB pulleys that have bearings. BKB’s pulleys are not designed the same as the majority of pulleys and take up less axle space. If you’re going to use those trucks, you probably need to buy pulleys specifically from BKB or be careful about what pulleys you use. Considering he already has pulleys, I wanted to let him know that as they’re likely incompatible.

Also, BKB currently only has 40 tooth abec pulleys, so unless that is what you want, you’re out of luck. I just went through a whole process with this. It massively delayed my build and made me have to pay shipping again just for some cheap pulleys and buy new wheels.

Ah ha. Shame they only have ABEC pulleys :frowning: was hoping to use Kegal Core wheels. Shipping to Australia is $100…

Yeah I was experimenting with that. It’ll work

So even if I soldered on the new wires from Flipsky motors, they wouldn’t work properly since the ESC is configured for the smaller less powerful motors

It’s not about the power. If you put larger motors on a prebuilt, you will get the same power as smaller motors, and they’ll just run cooler. I don’t have much experience swapping motors on prebuilt and no experience with Evloves, but AFAIK, they can sometimes not work properly because the ESC expects certain motor parameters to be within a certain range, and they may not be for other motors.

Why not just get longer hangers then? Boardnamics 220mm will work.
There’s an Australian supplier of their parts, but I can’t remember the name. You can probably contact boardnamics to find out tho.

@OzzysPaw @chr1spe Shoot I just ordered those $6 BKB trucks because I thought they were a steal and I opted to go instead with Tynee 40T ABEC 15mm wheel pulleys because I wanted the wider belt. BKB only sells 12mm 40T wheel pulley. Do you think the Tynee wheel pulleys will work?

I also ordered the Boardnamics Caliber II motor mount and I went with dual Torqueboard 6355s and I hope I will have room on that hanger for both.

Also do you know the axle diameter of those specific BKB trucks? 8 or 10?

I don’t know for sure, but my guess would be no. I’ve tried some 40T kegel pulleys that I think are identical to the Tynee ones, and they didn’t work.

What didn’t work about them? The bearing diameter was too big or small for truck axle or something else?

With the bearing in the pulley, the total width of the wheel and pulley was too much for the axle length. As I said above, most eskate trucks have ~50 mm of axle on each side to accommodate the pulley, while BKB trucks only have 42 mm. Also, a standard truck is ~36 mm. BKB trucks basically only have enough room for pulleys where the pulley bearing is directly against the wheel bearing, but most other pulleys have a gap there and need a longer axle. They do have normal 8 mm diameter axles.
