Yeah it causes a weird nut lock and it doesn’t work well

Yes. There would be a weird tolerance stack up situation.

I could design 4 different AT drives all with pros and cons. Tricky picking which one to go for. I could of done the set screw adapter method.

It would require washers on the bolts between the hub and the adapter plate, and it might vary

Maybe if you had the exactly the right spacing it would work but I wouldn’t trust aluminum threads to hold my hubs together that are responsible for both holding 50 psi and the wheels onto the axle

Yea that makes sense. I don’t really know the exact measurement, but the star plate thing looks like mby 1 thread diameter thick which I’d agree is not enough in soft stuff like aluminum.

It’s about 3 to 4 threads I think

But still, a steel nut with nylock is much stronger.

1.5x the thread diameter is fine for aluminum. Either way I will think of a redesign. However I have only seen 1 of these fail so I am not necessarily convinced it’s a recall level issue here.

Well I think the solution is obvious… just design, manufacture, test, redesign, and mass produce your own line of hubs in at least 6 different colors (don’t forget the wider stretched variant) so you can have full control over what the star thingy (sry for the jargon) is mating too :wink:

I ran mine with the locknut on the wheels. I put some green locktite on the nuts and waited overnight to assemble. Working fine. Aluminium rockstars

And you got the hubs tight enough? There should be no gap between the hub halves at all

The axle locknut holds the wheel together . Do this first then do the five bolts and apply blue loctite as they come out the backside of the rim before going into the star wheel adapter.

Maybe it’s bc you have aluminum ones, the axle nut isn’t nearly enough for the GF Nylon ones

It should be fine. The bearing spacer should stop it from going to far. You could always just apply a clamp to the wheel before the five bolts are tightened.

It’s not, even if you’re missing pressure from one outer screw it deforms, even at low pressure

That is what I hoped would happen but on Rockstar II they were barely splitting open near the ends. Never knew tires pushed the hub halves apart with so much force.

I dont see why you just dont use the locknuts. It doesn’t cause any problems.

I obviously have the locknuts on the hub, the whole discussion was about threading into the star piece while also having the nuts installed.

“threading into the star piece while also having the nuts installed.” . yes …this is where I had the most trouble with the rockstar pros. They dont have the holder for the locknut like the nylon rockstars. This is why I had to glue the locknuts in place so they wouldn’t slip and push out during assembly
