For folks who already decided they want an open-face helmet, which one do you like?
This isn’t about why you should (or shouldn’t) choose full-face instead, that discussion is over here.
This is for folks who already had that discussion, and/or might already have plenty of full face helmets, and/or are currently shopping for open-face helmets.
I am using the S1 Retro Lifer as shown above, but have been in the market for a not-black, open-face helmet, even if it’s a motorcycle helmet. Dark colors (such as black) that cars can’t see well at night are automatically rejected. I don’t like D-rings.
I have a Xnito helmet, which is quite cool and comfortable to wear. I don’t really wear it outside of my chill range testing or recording videos though
Troy Lee Designs Stage helmet. Suggested to me by @BenjaminF and glad he did. Super lightweight, great visibility and airflow, magnetic Fidlock clasp system. Love mine. I put reflective strips on mine.
Stage is not a half shell; it’s more a mountain bike style helmet with face protection but no visor that closes or anything. Either way not what Brian’s looking for.
It’s quite rare though that I take this over my full face motocross helmet (alpinestar sm5, highly recommended).
If I use my race/ mtb build I pretty much always grab the full face even for chill rides. If I use a low power esk8 the half shell is nice in good weather, but it’s very rare nowadays that I use a low power esk8.
I’ve seen the Nobleman Tech helmet here and there a few times and I know someone who uses one. It seems like a decent helmet (for esk8) and the chin bit is removable. It has a retractable visor. Just be a little weary, may be a white label product, certifications are definitely dubious.
I use a triple 9 skate helmet. For both DH and Eskate, it’s great! I used to use a Nutcase MIPs helmet until I took I pretty bad fall a couple years ago. I was going abt 40 and managed to walk away with a minor concussion and a broken collar bone.
My winter open-face helmet is a snowboard helmet, the Sweet Protection Trooper MIPS. It’s way too hot to wear in the summer but in the winter it’s treated me well and it’s warm. I’m not sure about its level of protection offered. The colder it is, the better this is.
This one does have a clip on the back for a light.

I would not get it in black color again, though. It’s available in white, I think.
