Benefits of metal hubs

So best bang for buck price to quality hubs?

E-toxx seem strongest along w/ kalys old hellcats but these are on the high size price range. Other than these what do y’all think?

I have mbs 8" rockstar pro 2 hubs now and am experiencing some play.

I’ve had good luck with the previous generation of newbee rims (before the quick release). Just got a set of linnpower rims in too, but haven’t ridden with them. On the bench, they seem great. The NEXT tires seem to be as balanced as they are on tomiboi hubs (so not perfect, but not bad). I’ll need to try some other tires to see how they balance them as well.

Those are all extra wide rims however. If you’re wanting regular size, I can’t say I’ve tested many. That said, Linnpower has a set of cnc mbs regular size rims with pulleys for $100. Might be worth trying.

Any chance to find kaly hubs for sale nowadays?

The et0xx v3’s are almost $500 bucks and seem to take 8 weeks!

Any other metal hub options out there?
And what’s the best metal bang for buck option today?

That post is ancient. Buy mbs rockstar 2 pro or pro XL if you want metal.

What would be the perfect tire for it in your opinion thanks!

these are what your talking about?

How true are they as far as eliminating play/vibrations/rattle?

Check out the MBS metal wheel options including the ones @Evwan is referring to.

The tire totally depends on your needs. Road or off-road? What size? Huge range of options out there.

Yeah, I’ve been looking mainly at the rockstar pro 2 and XL version alums but still a little trigger shy particularly after reading @rich 's reply here about owning 38 hubs and having he best luck w/ e toxx v3’s $500 hubs each? But there has to be a middle ground option jeez!

I’m currently using stock 200x50 Kenda tires but want something that will absorb bad roads more. Looking for the smoothest ride w/ the least amount of rattle/play/vibrations. Would love to stay 8" tire or less as anything bigger is just not as mobile for me carrying in buses etc.

Preesh

450 EUR is the price for the 4 hubs (with 19% VAT).

I now have 42 hubs :joy:

New are the phatlads and 8" mudpluggers in combination with the jump drive for my board for jumping. The bearing seats are very nice, the bearings fit well and don’t wobble at all. The only downside is that they are a bit heavy.

Regarding hubs… First of all, it depends on which drive train and which trucks you have. And also which tire sizes you want to use now or maybe in the future. Then you can think about which hubs to buy.

I think the new mbs metal hubs are fine according to what I read here and the price is nice.
The superstars are good dust collectors although I have to admit that I’m using some again now, but only because the gummies don’t fit on any other hub I own.

E-Toxx hubs are best in combination with E-Toxx gear drive and trucks. But you could use an adapter depending on your drivetrain and trucks. I love E-Toxx parts, they are of high quality and of course have their price. If I built a new board, I wouldn’t be able to afford these parts either. My tactic over the years is to buy individual parts again and again, so I could afford it.

They are quite stiff, right? What’s the lowest tire pressure you’ve ever tried? Decrease it further, the impact is huge! For example, the rigid and knobby 9" mudpluggers feel shitty at 40 psi (3 bar), very uncomfortable. At 2 bar or even less (20-30 psi) they start to shine and absorb many vibrations and it feels like riding on clouds.

I had 7" tires for years on my commuter. The board with hard evolve tires was rideable even without air in the tires. This year I switched to 8" and it felt so much better. 1 month later I switched to 9" and now I can’t go back because it’s awesome.

Thanks for clarifying. So the Etoxx v2/3’s seem to be most comparable w/ Lacroix’s HyperRims around the same price and 7075 alloy?

I wonder what yalls thoughts are on the comparison…

Lol Nice. So I have a Lacroix w/ bn m1 at gear drive w/ Hypertrucks.
R the Etoxx v2/3 hubs compatible?
The v2/3’s seem to be comparable to Lacroix hyperrims price point and 7075 alloy material. How do you feel they compare?

I’m not a jumper but commute 20 miles daily on rough Austin streets so, like you, hurts my soul when board has any kind of rattle/play/vibrations and tryna figure out the best hub/tire combo to eliminate as much as possible.

Hoping the mbs rockstar pro 2 alum hubs would accomplish this but don’t want to end up spending more in the end.

Best bang for buck tires in my case on the market today? Would love to stay with 8" or less for mobile convenience factor as I sometimes take in on metro buses. Love the off road style even though mainly rough street riding. Thinking may go 7"/8" with a little wider tire/hub like 175/200 x 65mm. Which tire do you think may be best in my case? Mbs t1/t3’s or mbs primo/stryker/etc…? For smoothest most solid feel ride?

I like your “tactic” as I’m in the same mode rather upgrade my board as needed w/ best on market parts rather than buy a whole new one.

The mbs hubs are fine. I have the XL and it’s really nice feature/ price per performance wise. However, if you get the XL and use the 3.75" lip on it, the outer lip will probably extend past the tire so don’t expect them to survive a crash.

Dam that’s a really good point. And just as I was leaning towards the xl’s Lol

Do the regular mbs rockstar pro 2 hubs alum have a wider width for 8" tires? Allowing me to stretch the contact patch a bit? I know its not nearly as much as the pricy hyperRims but are they more wider than the standard 8" hubs? I heard they were but they fit 6 & 7" tires as well so its hard for me to believe.

I think you would need a custom made adapter for the gear drive, the pitchcircle is special.

Also keep in mind that the total width required on the axle is only 25 millimeters. Depending on the position of the drive, the axle could protrude quite far.

Of course, everyone sees it differently, which is why the question is difficult to answer. Personally, the Clever tires are way too hard for me and uncomfortable. If you only ride on the road, then it’s ok.

The most comfortable tires I’ve ever had were MBS T1, it was like riding on clouds. But with the soft rubber you need tire sealant to prevent flats. Also, they don’t last extremely long but that’s the price to pay for a pleasant and comfortable ride. Also mudpluggers at low psi are very nice.

I use these tires for my daily board. I do about 30 miles a day on it. These have held up the best so far in terms of longevity. And when it comes to grip they do amazing, even on wet days the water doesn’t effect it too much. I don’t but them from these guys I normally just order them on Aliexpress for like $7 a tire

The mbs rockstar pro 2 alum reg & XL’s both boast wider rims / wider tire patch but is this actually true? Yes x’s are a wider rim (60mm) but Chart says if using 8" = 44m wide rim. Even less wide than the 7" grooves (45mm) and 9" = 54mm (which is narrower than your standard 9" 225x65mm tire so you get a narrower not wider tire patch) & 10" @ 60mm which is also narrower than the standard 10" tire. SO UNLESS we can use any groove w/ any tire I don’t understand the wider tire patch boast of these rims.

Same w/ the regular (6,7,8") rockstar pro 2 alum rims as the 8" grooves diagram specs shows 45mm widest part which is much closer to standard than really getting a wider tire patch. rockstar pro 2 nylons are 43mm wide so I’m not seeing the point.

The mbs video on these rims says the reg alums are 3.5mm each side OFFSET or inset if reversed. I kinda think pushing my wheels wider even more than standard on my hyper trucks may kinda look funny but does it really give one a better ride in any aspect? Not sure how necessary that would be, especially for 8" tires.

Anyone know what the offset is on the XL’s? The video only spec’d the offset on the regs.

I really like these rims but mainly was hoping to get a wider tire patch w/ 8" tires but if these do not actually accomplish this than need to keep looking. It only seems to extend past the tires a bit which would just making tight spaces tougher to get through particularly w/ the offsets.

Thanks!

Nice. Do you have a water proof remote when riding in rain?
