Belt drive vs gear drive

What is your view on belt drive vs stooge open gear drive for Cruiser board?

belts are cheap.

are you good with cheap or no.

Do you like false economics

belts are nice and suitable for your needs

or you can go for BN M1 gds, they’re cheap (for gear drives) and relaly good

I drove bd at my first cruiser and now a sealed GD, i wouldn’t go back to belts because if you got dirt under your pulleys the rip apart in seconds. I didn’t try open GD but maybe i change my old setup from belts to GD. I’m tyred getting snapped my belts too often

IMO open gear drive seems risky for daily use

Long thread here.
Really boils down to what your needs are.

@ 45mph you need everything working properly to make that late braking entry, hit the apex and still have good exit speed.

Hmmm…I didn’t see any mention of spacing or braking.
With gear drive I believe you can have a higher gear ratio without worrying about belt slippage and unreliable braking.
I still don’t think they are worth the extra money, though.
