Battery Position vs Ride quality

Question for the DIY builders and racers out there.

What do you prefer for the best overall riding experience?
Top mounted battery (pelican case or other)
Or
Under Deck enclosure.

I have been running under deck enclosures for all my builds. But im curious about a top box. Because my executive dysfunction is hindering my Enclosure build. Also the fact i dont have a car in the evenings.

Need to figure out the lowest profile top box, or someone needs to light a fire under my ass and I start making enclosures.

Battle it out in the comments!

Only battery, no deck /s

Personally, for me it’s function vs form, I definitely think underslung battery enclosures look better and are easier to store/carry.
But there are so many spots I ride regularly where I end up scraping the bottom of my deck. If I had an enclosure under my deck I think it would’ve been turned to dust by now if I kept riding the way I do.

Feel free to compliment my incredible artwork
Blue=curb
Red=wheels
Green=deck
I do this a lot and would rather have the entire deck protecting my battery from the ground instead of grinding on my enclosure when I go up and down curbs

I have also thought if this.
If i go top mount, i can run a shorter spacer for my trucks and lower the board more.
Then i can build a skidplate out of kydex and be reckless off curbs and shit.

Would there be any real difference between vertical cells and a double stack on top of the deck?

Blue = battery
Red= wheels

Kydex is pretty amazing stuff but would this be strong enough to resist impacts, scrapes and rocks/roots?

Love it!
but you messed up the description

blue = battery
red = cells (as wheels)

Its really just to prevent scraping up the bottom of the deck. I could mold in some ribs to provide additional impact protection. But this board is going to be used for 95% street including racing. And probably commuting. The other 5% is occasional fuckery. Off curbs, grass, possible off road or quick trail ride.

I’m considering a skid plate for my own board, but for me it’s dedicated trail riding with occasional roads when commuting

Add a front strap, then ride like this guy (Dylan Bell / IG: hewasaskaterboyy

Top mount box is easier to do waterproofing.

Yeah sure, easier said than done lol. We can’t all be that good.

Ah yes, a prime example of not scraping things :joy:

I’ve found the battery closer to the front feels more stable at higher speeds.

It compensates for the weight of the motors and prevents the front from lifting as much with hard acceleration.

I actually messed with this idea on my first DIY.
It does work!
