Battery discharged too far- what to do?

Alright guys - I haven’t been here for waaaay too long. Life happens. A newborn and a one and half year old and I haven’t ridden in a while.

Trying to get back into it. Fired up my BMS app and my battery on my board is LOW. Like. 0.1V. I’m thinking the charger won’t activate bc the battery is so far down and it’s probably under low voltage protection.

Any way to revive a battery this low? Appreciate all your help. Safe skating

Sorry, nope. If you bring it back up to voltage it becomes a fire hazard.

You’re going to need a new battery.

Nope. You need a new battery.

Anyone that says you can revive it is an idiot

All good - I have no qualms building a new battery.

Next question ~ I’m about to drive from Chicago out to west coast and am making the drive myself as to make sure my boards and batteries aren’t exposed to anything too extreme in terms of physical damage or heat.

Safe to drive with my batteries (still in the boards) in their discharged state to the west coast and then fix the boards when I get out there?

Also, any idea where to dispose of old battery packs? There’s this one place in Chicago open just a couple days a week- may try and hit them tomorrow to ditch some older packs

yeah the dead cells are dead. the danger would be in trying to charge them.

Apparently I can just walk into Home Depot and drop these off!? That’s wild. I would have thought there would have been like a hazmat dude in a suit waiting to send me elsewhere. Interesting.

Going to try and take a pack there later tonight and see how it goes

make sure the pack is protected physically. Those employees are not trained on how to handle stuff like that, make it baby proof

Can you elaborate?

Primarily don’t have it where a piece of metal could short it.

When charging a battery that was over discharged is the right thing to do, charge it as slow as possible as soon as possible.

According to most manufacturers if it’s under 1v it’s toast and that’s the lowest voltage any will say you can revive it.

Yeah, I got giddy too about home depot, BUT, they will not accept ratty still soldered into other things janky cells. In fact, you have to feed them into the receptacle one at a time, so even horribly swollen will not fit etc.

Not even a 1v minimum cut off beyond which you can’t recover as far as I can see with the Reliance rs50
