Wow. A thought that’s always been on my mind will finally find a front seat in my projects.
The Zeus has gone through so many eras for me and held up considerably well. It hit 5000 miles last month. I’ve used it for skate commuting, racing, and most currently sliding. I’m hesitant to make it diy since it’s been reliable as a prebuilt (diy seems to open the bag of worms with problems).
I’ll convert the Zeus to diy. Plans as of right now:
-New 13s5p battery. It currently has molicel p50b for 25ah pack. Not sure what I’ll replace with, watching cell prices closely.
-210 or 240 flat deck duality trucks
-6455 radium 173kv motors
-VX4 pro
-hoping I can get dual skp solos that I already have to fit inside enclosure. Might require some router work on underside of deck.
-optibelt Omega HP belts. The HTD belts stretch too much for me I need a more robust belt.
Goals for the build is low/medium power carve/ sliding board. Looking for as lightweight build as possible trying to save weight where possible. Stock configuration is 38lbs. Currently, on stock electronics I have to baby the Zeus if I throttle too hard it throws an over current fault where you have to come to complete stop for fault to clear. It’s got a bit of that lack luster feeling currently where a bit more power would be real nice coming out of a slide.
The battery is potted in place and would be a mess to remove. I messaged Ownboard and was able to order new enclosure to work with.
Currently been using 240mm hanger stollen from my diy “street beast” which I need to return to that project. I’m trying to determine if I can pull off 210mm hanger
I’ve been working for quite some time on dialing in control over these slides. Lots of hard work starting to pay off. I’m happy with progress I’m starting to feel. Can’t wait to see what I can accomplish with more performance driven build.
I bought an empty enclosure. When 6000 or 6500 mah cells come out with decent discharge, that don’t cost an arm and a leg, I’ll be replacing the battery pack. Willing to wait, probably be a year .
Got the conversion 1.0 completed (esc, trucks upgrade). Very fun carvy board, happy with deck clearances on the 210mm duality hangers. I suspected power would be low, but it’s just not enough. The stock battery only discharges 25 bat amps total for 12.5A per side. With the 6455 motors set to 50A each, it needs a slight bump in power which I think I can get from replacing the pack.
As conversion 2.0 I’ve ordered 65 Tenpower 50XG and will replace the 13s5p pack. Great deal only $3.50 each. I think I’ll set each side to 50 bat amps. Hoping this gives a tiny bit more punch.
