Bafang 350W 26in hubs from Jag35 / Battery Clearing House

If anyone wants to rock DOT rated tires, or wants stronger rims. You can look into lacing moped rims onto bike hubs. Only downside is the largest moped rim is 19 inches giving a tire diameter of 24 inches. So slightly lower top speed but more torque.

I’m gonna be doing single cross like in the grin video

I just looked back through some of the hub pics from earlier in the thread, and they’re also 1x. I guess the hub flanges are beefy enough for it. More interestingly, I also noticed that all of the spokes are laced inboard. For 1x, I guess it doesn’t matter, but surprising nonetheless

177Wh pack drained to 0 in about 14 miles which gives about a 12.69Wh/mi on varied terrain, some big hills, not much pedaling.

Hmm because it freewheels down hills but doesn’t track that distance I guess I rode farther but it couldn’t tell.

@Fosterqc those are some excellent watt per mile numbers. On my ebike I usually get around 20Wh per mile with a lot of pedaling, and 35-40Wh without pedaling. How much current are you pushing?

Also curious about coasting and braking/speed change. Did you setup braking in the focbox/do the hubs de-clutch and freewheel when not under power?

Regardless, consumption numbers seem pretty good!

Yep I can feel the resistance of the one way bearing when riding downhill, it makes it very hard to pedal much faster at all. The twist throttle I’m using doesn’t do any braking, the cogging of the motor slows itself down.

@Mr.Electronicist I forgot to look for max current when checking the range, but my settings are 40A motor and 35A batt. I’m still only running 6S due to being scared of the missing torque arm.

That’s probably a smart plan until you get the arms. I bet these hubs will be fine with 50-60 amps, but would be good to use the thermistor in that case.
I finally figured out exactly what I’m going to build with these hubs and set of rear hubs I have. 4WD recumbent bike.

will it still have pedals? or how will you make the bafang hubs cassette driven?

are you going to modify an existing frame? that would make most sense to me.

lastly will the wheels only be supported on one side like in that pic?

Also wondering about the 1 sided support.

Reminds me of the “Lefty” proprietary hub setup though

I want to put pedals so I can still fall under some sort of bike classification. I have some separate direct drive rear hubs that have the mount for the gear casset that I plan to use. I would just use these bafangs only as the front two wheels. Right now I’m just using that frame as a reference point, I wanna do something between that and a UTV frame with all wheel independent air suspension. Probably weld up a chromoly frame from scratch. I think I’m going to have to design a two sided wheel mount for it, because i don’t feel like machining new steel axles. Unless anyone here has any good ideas on making them one sided

Dude you’re awesome! I just got the email with tracking. Owe you one!

laziness ftw

Nice! I just got tracking too. Glad they got you sorted out too. Shit happens, but I’m very happy with how they handled fixing it.

Is there any issue with using a 500w controller with these 350w hubs?
(10s4p 10Ah battery)

@iespobolamas You should be fine running 500W through the hubs (500W / 40V = 25 Amps). it looks like they have 14AWG phase leads and are very well made. I plan to push 1500-2000w through mine, but plan to add thermistors so I can thermal throttle if needed.

Awesome, thank you kind sir!

His first build last year is definitely part of my inspiration for this. I didn’t see this new one yet. I really wanna try and copy the suspension of a polaris razr though so I can do jumps and trails. It’ll be a double wishbone in the front and then independent Swing arm suspension in the rear.

Already have all the hubs and batteries. Just have to design and fabricate the frame and buy up some ESC’s

haha, hells yeah, I have that same voltage meter :joy:
seriously dude nice work getting this thing to move, even if it is in a shoebox, lol
