Why not replace BLDC on a e-skateboard with these ? Seems that they would be more reliable, but maybe the diameter required is too large ?

i am looking into it. seems like they would perfect and crazy powerful. would probaly only require a single center mounted motor as well! Just need to find the right company/size and a single shaft extending out to each wheel…or make them hub motors. Id say it would revolutionize the industry.
Would inrunner motors with a big gear ratio get most of the efficiency there is to get while being able to reach high power?
on second thought – this motor design is for AC, not DC as supplied by batteries so this would require a lot of things to change.
BLDC motors are AC despite having “DC” letters in the name. We use ESCs or electronic speed controllers, to generate the three-phase AC needed from a DC battery.
Smallest standard frame size currently is huge, this seems interesting but it doesn’t seem mature enough yet or the market for smaller frame sizes just isn’t there yet.

The .75 to 3.75kw motor frame is 62lbs, obviously an industrial application and not a ev or pev focused design. Interesting but probably not going to be anything available for a decade or so. Maybe there is a different manufacturer than the one i found but this is the only referenced manufacturer in the articles i could google.
