As much as I didn’t want to make this post I’m out of patience. I initially bought a set of xcell rs tires from Landsurf, they were great until after 1200 miles when the cords started delaminating from the inside of the tires and shredding my inner tubes.
I figured it was probably just because I had so many miles on them so I bought another set off a friend, used them at esk8con and they held up fine then the first time I used them after getting back I got another flat, sure enough, same issue with cords hanging out from the sidewall and eating a tube, only this time I didn’t have anymore tubes to stick into them. I’ve gone through 14+ inner tubes dealing with this issue now.
I tried emailing landsurf and dm-ing Matt directly about the issue and havent received any kind of response, as a last resort I amended my review of the rs tires to note the issue and now my whole review has been unlisted from their site.
Just overall scummy awful business practices, tires arent worth your inner tubes or your money, ditto for the company as a whole if this is the kind of shady shit they’re doing.
Damn, that’s really sucky. Sorry to hear. And here I was just now considering finally giving them a try. I think the wheels have been on sale for quite some time now… Maybe they wanna get rid of a bad batch
same, though still less flats than the xcell’s by a longshot. Big issue seems to be the lack of quality tube suppliers for them, it’s really just hota and it seems like the meepo specific ones that’re included with the race tires aren’t all that good. I had decent luck using hota 175x50 tubes inside them but using oversized tubes in smaller tires feels sketch. I’m honestly kinda fed up with the 165mm form factor, hopefully supernovas can scratch the itch…
Maybe, honestly who knows, similar delams have happened to a friend of mine so maybe it’s just an issue with the design of the tires as a whole. What I do know is that they’ve done nothing to address the issue and seem to be entirely happy with sweeping any mention of it under the rug; as far as I’m concerned they can fade into obscurity and the hobby will be no worse off because of it, at least that’s more money going to decent tire manufacturers. It’s a damn shame, I really did like the compound landsurf used, tread lasted basically forever and the grip wasn’t shit. But alas, onto better things ig, maybe it’s time to hop on the brp train or something
Tubeless is intriguing, I just don’t have any rims that support them with my current axle size and I’m fresh out of more money to sink into wheels. Super annoying, I’ve got 2 sets of the meepo racing hubs which are tubeless compatible but they’ve only got 22mm bearing seats and I’m on 12mm axles.
Holy crap! That piece of metal is huge! I have ridden tubeless wheels when flat for a few miles at lower speeds less than 15mph. Depending on the stiffness of the sidewall, flat tires work pretty well. Sealant like Flat-away can be used in tubeless tires but I don’t think it would have sealed up a gash that big.
