AUSPEV Championship Series

My hiatus from race organising was short lived
It’s been too long between races!

Stoked to announce that my new project AUSPEV Championship Series is born

Series 1 will be a trial run across 3 months at 3 different tracks in Western Australia. Hopefully, with enough interest, we will incorporate a 3 race series in Queensland for series 2, essentially giving us an east coast and west coast conference before the Electric Racing League Nationals in 2026.

I’m still working a little bit on the ERL side of things, but the AUSPEV project gives me freedom to pursue the community level racing that im passionate about, while (hopefully) simultaneously kicking some bigger goals with the Electric Racing League.

This 3 race series will kick off on Feb 16th at Cockburn International kartway (1km outdoor track with 130m straight),

followed by a race at Hi Voltage on the 16th March (short indoor track, tight and technical, polished surface)

and wrapping up with a camping / racing event down at Bunbury City Kart Club. A country town track, 650m in length with a straight just under 100m- which in my opinion is one of the best tracks for PEV racing that ive been on

Racers will accumulate points across the series for the championship, however registrations will be available for the individual events if people only want to attend 1 race.

Thanks to our 2024/25 ERL season members, the entry pricing for these races has been significantly reduced to hopefully encourage some new riders to give racing a try.

There will be FREE freeriding sessions for anyone wanting to ride on the track without racing too

While we wont have the funds for live streaming, we will have some decent drone footage across these events. One part of the project im quite excited about is running some post race analysis/commentary with some of the competitors to overlay our drone footage. It should hopefully compliment the race foorage quite nicely

I will try my best to keep this thread updated promptly, however results will be featured on the ERL and Auspev socials right away - @electricracingleague and @auspev

Race 1 of the series kicked off today and it was epic! A bit hotter than we would’ve hoped for, but all in all the event ran smoothly and there was some great racing!

We had 14 e-skaters battle it out in their category with a much smaller turnout from the EUC boys. Our man @JeffyJ raced in both and absolutely killed it getting on the podium for both.

The format worked really well, providing some excitement with the reverse grid heat and giving all riders the opportunity to earn themselves some points.

It was probably the first event where I felt comfortable both directing and racing simultaneously, so thats promising for the rest of the series and future events ahead. A lot of the stress was eased by working with a solid team who all had their dedicated roles and did them extemely well, big shoutout to @CARVECRAFT

@Joelskishreds really caught Jeff and myself off guard with the amount of natural skill he has. He’s only had his V5 up and running for a couple of weeks and he’s already keeping up, catching up and even going faster than us at some points! He’s going to be a serious threat as time goes on, if not already!!

There will be plenty of videos and photos uploaded to the auspev IG this week, but for now, here’s the results for race 1

E-skate
:1st_place_medal:Tas Ventouras - 51 points
:2nd_place_medal:Jeff Cameron - 46 points
:3rd_place_medal:Joel Pritchard - 41

EUC
:1st_place_medal:Aaron Burrage - 47 points
:2nd_place_medal:Jeff Cameron - 36 points
:3rd_place_medal:Julian Richards - 24 points

2x @dragy_motorsports fastest lap points were awarded to Tas and Aaron for achieving the fastest laps in their categories

Cheers Tas. You killed it today. Well deserved win!!!

That overtake of you caught by the drone in the reverse grid race was nuts!!!

Reversed grid format. Quite entertaining with several overtakes and battles.

Cheers! You’re a trooper going back to back with EUC and esk8 races… and getting podium for both!

We need to do a dual class podium photo at the end of the series i think. Even though the partipant pool is low, you guys put in a massive effort on race day and deserve the recognition!

Race 2 update :checkered_flag:

A couple of upsets in the e-skate category today. @CARVECRAFT with a few tumbles costing him points and @Joelskishreds miscounting his laps resulting in a DNF😪

There was some class defending and an overall outstanding performance by Simon Franklin on a stock Hadean to secure 3rd place on the podium!

The battle for 2nd place in the EUC category is on, and with the highly anticipated return of national champ @Twotwentyz at race 3 - which is a double points race - the EUC category is about to get very spicy!

Race 3 will also be the ultimate decider for those in the esk8 category. Simon and @CARVECRAFT are now equal 5th at 23 points, stooge raceboard riders Ben Hall and @Joelskishreds are only separated by 5 points and @JeffyJ and myself have 11 points between us. And let’s not forget the wildcard @poastoast making an appearance!

Camping and a full day of racing for event 3 in Bunbury is going to be one for the books!

Congratulations to our Race 2 winners and our boy @JeffyJ for another double podium appearance

We wrapped up the series with an awesome camping & racing event, 2 hours south of Perth at Bunbury City Kart Club.

In my opinion, this track was pretty much perfect for e-skate racing, with the straight just long enough to hit around 70km/h before having to prep for a nice sweeping turn into another short straight. A couple of switchbacks and esses for overtaking opportunities and enough width for racers to get around the outside if they were fast enough. This was my fastest lap of the day, which was set to claim the record, till @JeffyJ pipped me by 0.01 in the last race of the day🤦

It was awesome to have @poastoast come down and visit us to check out a couple of west aussie tracks and scenic routes! I hope his trip here influences more international racers to come over to visit and race in series 2. With enough time here we could take you to 4 world class race tracks + coastal rides, river runs and offroad trails.

For our inaugural series, I was stoked with how it all came together. The team I have working with me are dedicated, hard working and always looking to improve and it certainly wouldn’t have happened without them!

We have a few weeks left of our training season before winter rolls in. Im looking forward to a bit of downtime to really focus on plans for next season. As well as another 9 month training season and a 3 race series, I’m looking at the feasibility of running a larger scale national comp here, spanning over a couple of tracks. As well as an exhibition race in a warehouse over winter. Hopefully all of these races can come to life! :crossed_fingers:

For now, here are the results from race 3 and the overall championship

And of course the podium shots

Euc race 3 winners and series champions (same order)

Esk8 race 3 winners

Esk8 series champions

Was great having @poastoast there! Regret not grabbing a few pics with him!! But there’s some cool footage of us racing which will do. Definitely hope Poast enjoyed himself and encourages others to come down and race with us too!
I concur that this track is the best I’ve raced on. The grip was just phenomenal! All of that rubber laid down from the go-karts made it feel like I was on rails going around the bends and probably had a lot more to give as I don’t think I broke traction once in the race!!! FYI @Tasventouras 75kph was top speed down the main straight
Looking forward to the next one!!!
