I’ve been working on this truck concept for a few years and finally got to the point where I want to start sharing it.
Introduction:
It’s a spring-based design that doesn’t use a traditional kingpin or pivot bolt.
Originally I was envisioning this as a way to make an All-Terrain mountainboard type truck, with suspension. But I decided that the easiest and cheapest way for me to design and prototype it was making the smallest version I could, and I had just gotten my first 3D printer. And so the AT-Mini was born.
Here is the first video I made, with the original proof of concept:
For years even prior to this, I’d been playing around with torsion trucks, and had been completely stumped on how to make torsion springs trucks work without breaking.
Designs like this have been around since the 70’s, and I’d been fascinated by them for a while.
But they never took off for several reasons, but the biggest is because they break.
This proof of concept video was the big “Aha!” moment, where I realized what was actually going on to cause this style to never work out. And with a fresh new lead, I started out making.
I’ve not had the chance to try avenue trucks. Every time I got to check them out they’ve been out of stock.
Nice to know that avenue trucks are usable for esk8.
I recently acquired an appreciation for how much torque there is going into the trucks from the motors, so I was unsure if Avenue’s could put up with it.
Yes. I was looking browsing different counters and I came across this thing which comes as a kit for $15.
And when I saw it, I knew I wanted it showing the counter on the deck itself.
Its super fun because I show it to people, and everyone wants to put a few carves on it to make it go up. So its made it a lot easier to get people to try the trucks.
